Developing sustainable and efficient production models

To develop sustainable agricultural production models, Nhu Thanh district has focused on transferring scientific and technical advances in agricultural production to farmers; at the same time, based on the potential and strengths of the locality, orienting people to suitable plants and animals; building production models linked to the value chain, such as: tray-seeding and transplanting models; growing fruit trees using drip irrigation and mist irrigation technology; safe vegetable growing model according to standards

VietGAP, in greenhouses... The district promotes clean agricultural production, organic agriculture; shifting from small-scale household farming to farm farming, applying biotechnology, such as: Biogas pits, biological bedding, balasa preparations... At the same time, expanding models, such as: Growing ornamental peaches, chili for export, growing galangal, turmeric, wood ear mushrooms, models of raising specialty animals such as grass pigs, honey bees, mountain goats... Along with that, the district also focuses on investing in building and upgrading traffic and irrigation infrastructure, especially the system of internal roads in concentrated farm areas that are hardened, meeting the needs of people for travel and transportation of goods. The district also supports product promotion, organizes connections between companies and businesses, brings local agricultural products to participate in product promotion fairs... to create momentum to promote farm economic development.

In Phu Nhuan commune, the model of raising specialty animals is chosen by many households to develop the economy. Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan, one of the pioneer households raising porcupines in the commune, shared: "On average, each day, an adult porcupine needs about 2kg of food, which is vegetables and tubers such as pumpkin, green squash, water spinach... When raising them, what I care about most is a clean, unpolluted environment. Although easy to raise, porcupines grow slower than other livestock; after 7 to 8 months, when porcupines have an average weight of about 10kg, they can be sold as commercial porcupines". It is known that in addition to the porcupine raising model, Phu Nhuan commune is also developing farms raising specialty animals such as: chickens, goats, wild boars, grass pigs, deer... combined with growing fruit trees.

In Xuan Du commune, in recent years, in addition to the peach growing model that has been bringing high economic efficiency, red-fleshed dragon fruit is also being boldly put into production by many households. According to the assessment of many households, red-fleshed dragon fruit is suitable for the climate and soil here, does not require high care techniques, low production costs, and is much more economically efficient than rice and traditional fruit trees... Mr. Le Quang Quyet, a red-fleshed dragon fruit grower, said: "Currently, we have expanded the area, implemented the planting and care process according to VietGAP. Therefore, after many years of being introduced to the market, red-fleshed dragon fruit products in Xuan Du commune have been trusted by consumers and widely consumed in safe food stores in the province and some neighboring localities". The red-fleshed dragon fruit growing model has been widely replicated in the commune, becoming a key crop in economic development, contributing to increasing people's income.
