Floods caused more than 20 billion VND in damage

Nong Son Commune Party Committee said that due to the impact of recent floods, there were many serious losses of people and property in the commune.

According to initial statistics, 1 person was injured, 30 houses were in the dangerous landslide area, of which 2 houses were severely damaged and 10 houses were slightly damaged.

In addition, floodwaters collapsed 40m of the fence of Hoang Dieu Primary School; 40 classrooms were flooded; 1 medical station was flooded; machinery and equipment at the Cultural House - Sports Area of Trung Phuoc 2 village were damaged.

The agricultural sector suffered heavy damage with 6 hectares of crops, 4 hectares of perennial trees, and 5 hectares of fruit trees severely damaged; 4 hectares of annual crops partially damaged.

Regarding aquaculture, floods damaged 10 hectares of freshwater fish farms in Hoc Ha Lake, 4 hectares of small freshwater fish ponds, 3 square meters of crab and other aquatic product ponds, and 2,003 livestock and poultry were swept away or died. The local transportation and irrigation systems were also severely affected. Total damage caused by floods is estimated at about VND 20,079 billion.

Immediately after the flood receded, the locality quickly deployed disaster recovery work; coordinated with organizations and individuals to distribute 2,580 gifts to support households affected by floods; and received 3 canoes supported by units to serve disaster response work.

Currently, the City People's Committee has provided the Commune People's Committee with 4 billion VND to provide emergency support to overcome the consequences of natural disasters (phase 1). This funding source is prioritized for direct support to the people and timely repair of essential works.

However, up to now, the city has not provided material and fuel support to the force directly participating in natural disaster prevention - the force that plays a core role in command, response and overcoming consequences.

Nong Son Commune People's Committee proposed that the City People's Committee consider and supplement 500 million VND in funding for command and direction of natural disaster prevention, control and overcoming consequences in the commune.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh commended the locality's efforts in responding to and preventing the historic flood according to the "4 on-the-spot" motto; at the same time, commended the grassroots forces for their efforts in responding and actively supporting the people.

Along with that, we have been proactive in information work, especially in timely connecting with support groups to support the people. Thanks to good coordination, we have minimized the damage caused by floods.

However, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee also noted that localities should grasp information and immediately refute incorrect information on social networks in response and remediation work, especially in supporting the people.

With the city's support resources, the locality needs to divide them in a secure and appropriate manner, not to miss any targets. The city will have a serious summary of the recent flood prevention, control and recovery work to review the advantages and limitations and have fundamental, sustainable and long-term solutions.

The Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee noted that it is necessary to make timely recommendations to the city when there are problems, especially in overcoming the consequences of rain and floods, but it must be practical. Regarding investment costs for long-term projects, there must be full statistics and a comprehensive report to the city.
