The program's speaker - Dr. Amit Sharma, Head of International Cooperation, FSSAI, provided important information on sanitation laws and guidelines in India.

According to Mr Sharma, the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 (FSS) of India covers the entire food supply chain process, from production, processing, distribution to retail. The regulation applies to all types of food, including primary, unprocessed, processed and partially processed food.

The law also covers genetically engineered foods and organic foods, and controls ingredients and water used in foods, including bottled drinking water and similar products.

The webinar provided an opportunity for Indian and Vietnamese businesses to better understand Indian regulations on food safety certification. The participation of many business representatives also showed their interest and awareness of the importance of food safety.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Bui Trung Thuong, Commercial Counselor in India, recommended that Vietnamese enterprises wishing to export food products to the Indian market need to carefully research the market, meet the standards prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Department under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and must have the FSSAI certification code of the importer before the goods can be imported into India.
