Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son believes Malaysia will strengthen solidarity and the central role of ASEAN.

On January 19 in Langkawi, Malaysia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan on the occasion of attending the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated Malaysia on successfully organizing the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat and expressed his belief that Malaysia will successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chair 2025, contributing to strengthening solidarity and the central role of ASEAN.

The two sides expressed their delight at the particularly important step forward in bilateral relations with the upgrade to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking an important milestone in the history of bilateral relations; at the same time opening up many opportunities to further deepen and tighten cooperation areas.

The two Ministers affirmed that they will continue to promote the implementation of cooperation contents approved by the two countries' senior leaders, coordinate to build an Action Program to implement the new phase of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and soon organize the 8th Meeting of the Vietnam-Malaysia Joint Committee at the ministerial level in Malaysia to realize the commitments of the senior leaders. The two sides agreed to further promote the fields of economic connectivity, data, fisheries cooperation, energy and tourism.

The Malaysian Foreign Minister emphasized that in the process of implementing priorities such as energy transition and digital transformation, Malaysia always considers Vietnam an important partner and affirmed that it will promote close cooperation between the two countries to achieve specific and substantive results.

Discussing cooperation within the ASEAN framework, the two sides agreed to promote regional cooperation in the fields of digital transformation, energy connectivity, data center construction, trade facilitation, tourism and people-to-people exchange. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that he will closely coordinate with Malaysia - ASEAN Chair 2025 and other ASEAN member countries in promoting the focuses, priorities and initiatives proposed by Malaysia for the Chairmanship Year and hoped that ASEAN in general and Malaysia - ASEAN Chair 2025 in particular will have practical activities to mark the 10th anniversary of the ASEAN Community (2015-2025), bringing the image of the ASEAN Community closer to the people of the region and the world.
