(Dan Tri) - Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh directly inspected the flood situation, visited and gave gifts to encourage people affected in Quang Tri province.

On the afternoon of October 30, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh chaired an online meeting with communes and wards in Quang Tri province on flood response work.

According to the report of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, from October 26 until now, the area has had heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall of 150-250mm, some places over 300mm; many communes were deeply flooded, landslides occurred in mountainous areas, and local isolation occurred.

In the whole Quang Tri province, more than 700 houses were flooded, 2,100 people were affected, 137 households had to be urgently evacuated. The floods killed one person, left one missing, more than 5,000 students had to stay home from school, many roads were cut off, landslides occurred, initial damage was estimated at about 300 billion VND.

Quang Tri province leaders also said that the locality has declared a state of emergency in two areas at high risk of landslides in Tuyen Phu commune.

In the long term, the province determined that it needed a fundamental solution to cut floods and reduce inundation in key areas of Hai Lang and Trieu Phong districts (formerly Quang Tri province) and Le Thuy district (formerly Quang Binh province).

Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of Quang Tri province in natural disaster prevention and control. Thanks to the proactive and thorough measures, the locality has had a timely response plan, the "4 on-site" motto has been activated and operated effectively.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested Quang Tri province to continue to review, warn, and proactively evacuate people in areas at high risk of landslides, and increase propaganda on skills to respond to floods, especially landslides and deep flooding.

The government needs to implement measures to absolutely ensure the safety of people's lives, promptly support food, drinking water, and medicine, and ensure no one goes hungry or lacks medical care.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh directly inspected the flood situation and presented gifts to encourage affected households in Ninh Chau and Dien Sanh communes, Quang Tri province.

According to the Quang Tri Province Civil Defense Command, as of the afternoon of October 30, the water level in the rivers in the area is slowly receding. According to the forecast, from tonight until the end of October 1, Quang Tri will have moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places.
