Phong Dien District Police launched a campaign to combat drug crimes.

Although not considered a "hot spot" for drugs, Phong Hai commune is considered the most complicated area in terms of drug situation in Phong Dien, if not well controlled.

Phong Dien District Police said that the source of drugs used by the subjects was determined to be brought by young people from Hue City to Phong Hai. Many young people were invited by friends and had financial resources to participate in the "partying". Many families have houses in both Phong Hai and Hue City, making the monitoring process of the authorities more difficult. When hearing that the authorities came to check and "test" for drugs, these subjects informed each other and left the area immediately afterwards.

Drug users are very sophisticated in evading the authorities. Through professional measures, mobilizing the entire political system to participate in preventing, combating and eliminating drug abuse, in the first months of 2024, Phong Dien District Police discovered and handled 3 cases of illegal drug trafficking, storage and use in Phong Hai commune. The subjects arrested were mainly young people who organized drug use, and there were no records of storing or trading in large quantities. However, the authorities were not subjective, continued to stay close to the area, proactively implemented solutions to monitor well subjects at risk of committing crimes; as well as increased propaganda to proactively prevent and combat crimes.

Besides Phong Hai, in Phong Dien, cases of drug law violations have also been discovered in Phong An and Phong Hien. According to records, the subjects bought drugs in other localities and then organized their use. The criminals were working and studying in the cities; then, during summer and holiday breaks, they invited each other to use illegal substances. Recently, in Phong Hien, the authorities promptly discovered, arrested and handled a group of young people gathering to illegally use drugs.

Propaganda work on drug prevention and control has been effectively implemented by Phong Dien district in recent times.

Multiple synchronous solutions

The leader of Phong Dien District People's Committee informed that recently, the drug-related crime situation in the area has been basically controlled. Propaganda,education and prevention work has been more effective. Drug prevention and control work has focused on key routes and areas; thereby, reducing key points, hotspots and areas; gradually changing the situation in complicated areas.

One of the solutions that Phong Dien has effectively implemented to prevent drug abuse is that functional units coordinate with high schools and middle schools in the district to propagate the law on drug prevention and control among students. Effectively organize and operate 4 models of installing "Security cameras"; "Residential areas without crime and drug abuse"; "Schools without students violating the law and social evils" and the model "Motorcycle groups to prevent and control crime".

However, currently in the district there are still 5 drug addicts, 61 people illegally using drugs, 7 people in post-rehabilitation management, 48 people suspected of illegally using drugs. As of July 2024, in Phong Dien district, 13/16 communes and towns have drug addicts and users.

Mr. Hoang Van Thai, Vice Chairman of Phong Dien District People's Committee said: To prevent drug abuse and move towards a drug-safe area, the district requires Party committees, authorities at all levels, socio-political organizations and all classes of people in the area to uphold the exemplary role and sense of responsibility of cadres and party members in managing and educating children in the family. Specialized forces focus on fighting and suppressing drug crimes and taking effective measures to prevent drug smuggling; promptly detect and eliminate illegal drug use locations and drug trafficking and transportation lines...

“The district will continue to focus on implementing and expanding support models, creating conditions for addicts, illegal drug users and post-rehabilitation managers to learn a trade, find a job, borrow capital for production and business and access medical and social services, and prevent drug relapse. In particular, effectively implementing the 5 no’s (no testing, no keeping, no using, no trading, transporting and no illegal possession of drugs) and 4 yes’s (having awareness of drug prevention; having determination to manage, educate and treat drug addicts themselves and their children; having the spirit to detect and denounce drug crimes and evils; having compassion and forgiveness for post-rehabilitation addicts)”, Mr. Hoang Van Thai shared.
