Parents burst into tears and ran out of school after watching a clip of their child having an accident while playing.

A student at an educational center in Hoi An had an accident while playing. Only when the parents discovered the incident and asked for clarification did the school owner admit his mistake.

On the night of November 13, a meeting between parents whose children study at Palm River Academy (Cam Thanh commune, Hoi An, Quang Nam ) ended after more than 3 hours of tension without reaching an agreement on a final solution.

The accident happened but it took two weeks to clear up.

Ms. Q., a parent in Hoi An, said she sent her two children to study at Palm River Academy. On October 31, her son returned from school with a cut on his neck.

Suspecting that their child had an accident while studying, the family asked the school to clarify.

On the afternoon of November 13, a meeting was held between the school owner and Ms. Q’s family. Some parents who had questions about the legal procedures of the educational institution were also invited to attend for discussion.

The meeting took place at Palm River Academy from 4pm. At around 7pm, Ms. Q. ran out of the school in a panic, crying loudly.

Seeing the unstable situation, the female school owner tried to run after her to calm her down but was stopped by Ms. Q's husband (a foreigner).

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Q. said that on October 31, her son came home from school and showed unusual signs. There were signs of cuts and soft tissue damage on his neck. At that time, her family asked Palm River Academy to give an explanation and extract the camera footage.

But it was not until the afternoon of November 13 that Palm River Academy held a working session. Here, when directly watching the clip of her son having an accident in the playground, Mrs. Q. was shocked.

Inter-level school disguised as foreign language center

Responding to Tuoi Tre Online reporter, the school representative said he takes full responsibility for the incident.

"There were many issues between me and the family of the student who had the accident. I also wanted to let their child stay home from school. But the family did not agree to let him stay home and asked to watch the video for clarification.

The accident happened due to negligence when the child was playing in the playground and got caught on the swing, as well as crashed headfirst into a pillar" - Ms. Luong Thanh Xuan, owner of Palm River Academy, said.

According to Tuoi Tre Online 's research, Palm River Academy is licensed as an English teaching center, but for many years it has recruited students and organized teaching like an international inter-level school.

Although the school teaches at multiple levels, it does not have its own premises and rents a villa to organize semi-boarding classes, studying subjects according to foreign curriculum.

Students studying here do not have transcripts and are not reported to local authorities.

The school currently has about 70 students, most of whom are Vietnamese, some of whom are children of foreigners living in Hoi An.

Quang Nam Department of Education and Training will investigate and clarify.

Mr. Thai Viet Tuong, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Nam province, said he will directly send a delegation to verify teaching activities at Palm River Academy.

"This place is only licensed to teach English," said Mr. Tuong.

A parent whose child attends Palm River Academy said that during several government inspections, the school proactively sent students on field trips or organized activities elsewhere to bypass authorities.
