Phu Tho requires repairing damaged Song Lo bridge before the 2026 rainy season

Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee Tran Duy Dong has just requested relevant units to focus on implementing measures to handle and repair the damage to Song Lo Bridge (Doan Hung Commune), completing it before the 2026 rainy season, ensuring traffic safety for people as originally designed.

Song Lo Bridge, spanning the Lo River in Doan Hung Commune, was put into use in 2015. According to the inspection results of the Road Engineering Center - Vietnam Road Administration and Phu Tho Road Joint Stock Company, after the 2024 storm season, the bridge showed some local damage. By October 2025, after the impact of storms No. 5, 10 and 11, the bridge structure continued to be damaged, posing a potential risk to traffic safety.

Faced with that situation, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the temporary suspension of all traffic activities across the bridge from October 27, 2025, and at the same time assigned the Department of Construction to coordinate with specialized consulting units to inspect and evaluate the overall current status, determine the cause and propose a solution.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to urgently inspect the bridge foundation structure and report on a solution to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. At the same time, he requested the Transport Engineering Design Corporation (TEDI), the Institute of Transport Science and Technology, and the Road Engineering Center to quickly survey and assess the level of impact on the safety of the project. It is expected that on the morning of November 3, 2025, the province will issue an official announcement on allowing or temporarily banning traffic on the bridge.

The People's Committee of Doan Hung commune was assigned to coordinate reasonable traffic flow, delineate dangerous areas, arrange 24/7 staff and organize cross-river passenger terminals to serve the people. The means of transport used are steel-hulled boats with a capacity of 30 people and 20 motorbikes or more, ensuring compliance with waterway safety regulations.

The Department of Finance is responsible for allocating funds to maintain the ferry terminal during the bridge closure. The media agencies in the province must increase propaganda, provide accurate information, guide public opinion, and avoid misinformation that causes panic among the people.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that the repair of the damaged Song Lo Bridge must be completed before the 2026 rainy season, ensuring absolute safety for people and vehicles.
