On June 13, the Jordanian military said it had shot down a drone carrying drugs from Syria into the country's northern border area.
Jordan accuses pro-Iranian militias, who are protected by Syrian army units, of smuggling drugs across the border to Gulf markets.
Meanwhile, Iran and Syria deny responsibility for organized drug trafficking operations.
In January, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with Russian Presidential Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in the capital Ammam to discuss enhancing security and stability in Syria and addressing the problem of drug trafficking from Syria to Jordan.
Russian Special Envoy Lavrentiev expressed readiness to cooperate with Jordan to deal with challenges in southern Syria, especially drug trafficking and instability in the Middle Eastern country.
