Military Region 5 mobilized tens of thousands of officers and soldiers to respond to storm No. 13.

As of the morning of November 4, localities and units in Military Region 5 have mobilized tens of thousands of officers and soldiers to respond to storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi storm), which is expected to make landfall in the Central region and Central Highlands in the next few days.

According to the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command, to respond to storm No. 13, the unit has advised the Provincial Civil Defense Command, directed agencies and units under its authority to proactively prepare for storm response, focusing on reviewing areas at risk of landslides, flash floods, and inundation, and fully preparing forces and means to be ready to mobilize when situations arise.

As of November 3, the entire Dak Lak province had 431 fishing boats, with more than 2,000 workers in operation. Currently, the Provincial Border Guard Command is continuing to propagate, mobilize, call, and guide vehicles to know the direction of the storm, proactively prevent; closely coordinate with the Ministry's units in the area, mobilize nearly 15,000 soldiers, police, militia, hundreds of vehicles: pumps, canoes, motorboats..., ready to help people before, during and after the storm.

On the morning of November 4, immediately after receiving instructions from Military Region 5, the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command activated the 24/7 combat readiness mechanism; established working groups to go to the grassroots to grasp the situation, coordinate with local authorities to review areas at high risk of landslides, flooding, and isolation. Disaster response plans and options were updated and supplemented to be closer to reality, taking the "4 on-site" motto as a consistent principle.

Along with ensuring the safety of warehouses and barracks, the Provincial Armed Forces mobilized more than 1,000 officers and soldiers along with vehicles including: 46 cars, 6 armored vehicles, 27 ships, boats, 147 tents, 4,364 life jackets, lifebuoys... ready to mobilize when there is a situation requiring response and rescue.... The forces coordinated with the government and police and border guards to support people in securing their houses, evacuating people from dangerous areas, and guiding boats to anchor safely.

Colonel Nguyen The Vinh, Commander of the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command, said: The unit and the coordinating parties have organized two temporary command centers at the Regional Defense Command 1 - Hoai Nhon Nam; Regional Defense Command 5 - Ayun Pa and a regular command center at the Provincial Military Command to be ready to handle situations. The unit maintains 100% of its troops on duty, identifying the work of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters as a key political task, a "combat mission in peacetime".

Colonel Tran Tien Hai, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Military Command and Commander of the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard Command, said: The province currently has more than 5,700 fishing boats. Up to this point, the authorities have called on 5,197 boats/36,379 fishermen anchored at local beaches and notified 2,425 aquaculture cage owners. The province currently has 575 boats/4,025 fishermen operating in the sea areas that are being contacted and notified continuously to move away from the danger zone.

Regarding aquaculture cages, the Border Guard Command has encouraged people to proactively evacuate to shore. If necessary, the forces will organize enforcement to ensure absolute safety for people, and at the same time, organize two storm warning flares at Nhon Chau and Nhon Ly islands, sending signals at the right time, helping fishermen proactively take shelter safely.

Storm No. 13 is identified as a strong storm, moving quickly, with a wide range of influence and many unpredictable developments. In general direction of storm prevention and control work, Major General Nguyen Quoc Huong, Deputy Commander of Military Region 5, requested agencies and units to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the documents of the General Staff and Military Region in natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue, closely monitor and correctly assess the situation of the storm. The Provincial Military Command must develop specific plans for each level of natural disaster, participate in evacuating people before the storm, be ready to rescue people and overcome the consequences after the storm.
