The Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea held an expanded meeting

According to KCNA, Mr. Kim Jong-un made the above statement while presiding over an enlarged meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea the previous day. At this meeting, Mr. Kim Jong-un emphasized the importance of a "strong army" in implementing the military strategy of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and called for "ensuring more powerful offensive means to carry out the mission of war deterrence."

Notably, during the meeting, North Korea replaced top general Pak Su-il with Mr. Ri Yong-gil.

Other "important tasks" discussed at the meeting also included preparations for a militia parade to mark the 75th anniversary of its founding on September 9, KCNA said.

The meeting comes as South Korea and the US plan to hold their annual military exercise, called Ulchi Freedom Shield, later this month.
