Quang Ngai: A trick of forging tax authority documents appears

In recent days, many businesses in Quang Ngai have unexpectedly received invitations with red stamps from the tax authorities. The Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Quang Ngai Provincial Police, warned that this is a new scam, taking advantage of people's trust in administrative documents with red stamps.

Fake text to scam customers

According to the reflection, these documents are related to the policy of reducing value added tax and refunding personal income tax.

The document requires people to come to the tax office at a specific time and location, and bring a series of documents, such as citizen identification card, business license, tax registration certificate, and file confirmation code on ETax Mobile, the official tax declaration application of the tax office.

According to the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, the way the document is presented makes it easy for people to be confused. This is a sophisticated fake document, but still reveals many serious errors, from format to content.

Most noticeably, the name of the governing body, the seal and the document number are all incorrect and invalid. From July 1, 2025, the Quang Ngai Provincial Tax Department has been renamed Quang Ngai Provincial Tax with 11 affiliated tax units.

Meanwhile, the document has the number “180/2025/ND-CP” – this is the document number for the Government Decree, which cannot be used for an administrative invitation.

According to the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, the subject can send an invitation and then call the victim, asking to reinstall the eTax Mobile declaration application via a separate link, but in fact, it is a software containing malicious code to take control of the phone. Then, transfer money from bank account information and payment applications saved on the phone.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tiep, Head of Taxation of Quang Ngai province, confirmed that the above document was completely fake, and at the same time, the signature in the document was completely different from his signature.

He said: "Fortunately, the person receiving the document suspected a forgery in this document and promptly contacted the tax authority to check and verify the information."
