Currently, Quang Ninh has nearly 1,000 patients with kidney disease, of which about 30% are indicated for kidney transplant. Deploying kidney transplant techniques locally not only helps patients reduce cost pressure and waiting time, but also opens up opportunities to access high-quality medical care right in the province.
Over the past year, the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital has proactively invested in infrastructure, established specialized units to serve the transplant process such as: hemodialysis area, intensive care area, kidney removal and transplant surgery room, post-operative resuscitation system... The entire system ensures closed, one-way operation, meeting technical standards of sterility and biosafety. Medical equipment has been invested in modern and synchronously, from MRI and CT-Scanner imaging diagnostic systems to dialysis machines, ECMO machines, kidney endoscopes and specialized surgical support equipment.
The Ministry of Health has just issued a Decision recognizing the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital as qualified to perform kidney removal and transplant techniques. |
At the same time, the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital signed a professional cooperation agreement with the Vietnam - Germany Friendship Hospital to receive technology transfer and train medical staff. 60 medical staff of the Hospital have been thoroughly trained in the steps of the organ transplant process, from donor evaluation, organ preservation to transplantation and post-operative care.
Kidney transplantation is an effective treatment method that gives patients the opportunity to recover their health, prolong their life, return to work and significantly reduce long-term treatment costs. |
Hospital leaders said that with a full legal basis and careful preparation of human resources, infrastructure and equipment, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital plans to perform its first kidney transplant this April.
This is not the first time the unit has made its mark in the field of organ donation and transplantation. Previously, in April 2024, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital was the first provincial unit in the country to successfully retrieve multiple organs from brain-dead donors, saving the lives of 7 patients.
This success is the premise for Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital to urgently develop a project and comprehensively prepare for kidney transplant implementation - a technique that requires high expertise, modern facilities and strict interdisciplinary coordination process.
