Border guards search for missing fishermen at night

According to the report of the Quang Tri Province Civil Defense Command, due to the impact of storm No. 10, from September 27 to the morning of September 29, rainfall in Quang Tri was generally from 150-250 mm, with some places reaching nearly 500 mm such as Huong Son (482 mm), Tan Lam (427 mm), Ta Rut (395 mm)...

Heavy rains caused many rivers to rise above alert level 2, causing widespread flooding in mountainous communes and low-lying areas. A series of overflow bridges, inter-village roads, and provincial roads were flooded from 0.5 m to 2 m deep, many communes such as La Lay, Ba Long, Huong Lap, Huong Phung... were completely isolated.

Most seriously, storm No. 10 left 12 people missing and 1 injured. Of these, 9 fishermen went missing when two fishing boats broke their mooring lines and drifted at Gianh port on the night of September 28; 2 other crew members went missing when their boat sank in the Cua Viet estuary area the same morning.

In addition, a child (born in 2009, Kim Phu commune) was swept away by floodwaters while crossing a flooded area. The search for victims is still being urgently deployed. A resident (born in 1956, Bo Trach commune) fell while securing his house and was seriously injured.

Traffic infrastructure was severely damaged, with many landslides on the positive and negative slopes on provincial roads, inter-commune and inter-village roads. In Huong Phung commune, the Chenh Venh village spillway bridge broke in two spans, and the inter-village road from Cop to Phung Lam - Huong Choa had about 500 m³ of soil eroded. Many residential roads were eroded and damaged for hundreds of meters.

The whole province had 12 houses with roofs blown off or collapsed, many schools, fences, and public works were damaged. More than 1,160 hectares of unharvested summer-autumn rice, along with dozens of hectares of vegetables, cassava, and potatoes were flooded. Some aquaculture areas such as Cua Tung and Gio Linh had tens of thousands of fish and shrimp fry swept away by the water. In some communes, a series of shrimp ponds and freshwater fish ponds were flooded, and cages were seriously affected.

Quang Tri Province authorities have proactively evacuated 3,554 people from 1,205 households from the danger zone. On Con Co Island alone, all 185 people have been taken to safe shelters.

To prevent storms, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a series of directive documents and organized online meetings with all communes, wards, and special zones to direct the recovery work. Working groups of provincial leaders directly went to the scene to inspect, support and direct search and rescue. During the day and night of September 28, leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee and departments and branches directly directed the rescue work of 2 ships in distress at Cua Viet and fishermen in the Gianh River area.

Localities in the province have deployed forces on duty 24/7, arranged barriers and warning signs at flooded, landslide-prone and dangerous areas to ensure people's safety.

Ensuring dam safety is of particular concern: Reservoirs in the area are operating stably, within safe limits. Dikes, embankments, and reservoirs under construction have all reached about 80% of their capacity, ensuring flood-proofing.

At the same time, the electricity sector has been mobilized to the maximum to fix the problem in many areas with power outages. Localities are continuing to review the damage, summarize the support needs, and at the same time develop plans to support people's lives, production and restore infrastructure.

Today (September 29), Quang Tri province continues to mobilize all forces to search for missing people and gradually overcome the consequences, soon bringing people's lives back to stability.
