Accordingly, on the basis of the 5-year review of the implementation of Resolution No. 04, dated April 20, 2017 of the 16th Provincial Party Committee on promoting agricultural restructuring associated with the implementation of the national target program on new rural construction in Quang Tri province for the period 2017-2020, with a vision to 2025, on November 4, 2021, the Provincial Party Committee issued Conclusion No. 168 on promoting agricultural restructuring, which determined that by 2025, there would be over 1,000 hectares of organic rice, naturally cultivated with linkages, associated with processing and branding of Quang Tri organic rice.
In addition to developing organic agriculture and forming a synchronous and sustainable agricultural economic ecosystem, localities in the province actively call on businesses to participate in linking and implementing high-tech agricultural projects, organic agriculture, and linking along the value chain to increase output and product value.
Since then, many organizations and individuals have invested in developing models applying technology of greenhouses, membrane houses, drip irrigation systems, and automatic sprinklers. Currently, the province has more than 80 agricultural development projects, including more than 10 high-tech agricultural projects in the fields of cultivation, livestock, aquaculture, forestry, and agricultural, forestry, and fishery processing.
More than 10,000 hectares of rice have been sprayed with herbicides, fertilized, and protected against pests using drones, ensuring the health of producers while saving significant time and labor costs.
The implementation of mechanization in rice production from land preparation, application of row sowing tools, mechanization in harvesting, and preliminary processing of products has been promoted. In recent years, the area of large-scale field production in the whole province has reached 11,000 hectares, the area of all kinds of crops produced according to standards is more than 1,200 hectares.
In 2024, food output will reach 311,000 tons, an increase of 5,564.3 tons over the same period in 2023, exceeding the annual plan by 11.17%. Of which, rice is still the main crop with an output of 296,452 tons. The area of organic rice production, natural farming, organic, VietGAP, and food safety is 1,226.85 hectares.
By the end of 2024, the area of linked crops and product consumption in the whole province will reach more than 8,100 hectares, focusing on key products such as rice, coffee, pepper, medicinal herbs and fruit trees.
Quang Tri is also one of the leading provinces in the country in planting raw material forests and processing planted wood, and is also the leading province in planting forests associated with FSC forest certification, reaching nearly 18,050 hectares. Every year, the forest cover rate in the province is maintained at 49% - 50%.
In the field of aquaculture, continued development associated with diversification of farming objects and methods, so productivity and output always meet and exceed the set targets, offshore fishing and exploitation capacity is improved. Many localities have also applied high technology (Biofloc) in commercial shrimp farming to increase productivity, reaching 20 - 30 tons/ha/year, 10 - 15 tons/ha higher than traditional farming, bringing efficiency from 500 - 800 million VND/ha, depending on the selling price of each crop. Total aquatic product output in 2024 will reach 38,043 tons, reaching 103.5% of the plan.
Regarding livestock farming, up to now, the whole province has about 700 livestock and poultry farms, with nearly 50 large projects investing in the livestock sector with a total committed investment capital of up to several billion VND.
With that approach, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector has achieved many remarkable results, increasing by 3.23% in 2021, 1.09% in 2022, 4% in 2023, and 3.37% in 2024. In the first quarter of 2025, thanks to relatively favorable weather and synchronous implementation of solutions, the whole province planted 26,218 hectares of rice in the winter-spring crop, reaching 102.46% of the plan, with a total herd of nearly 83,000 buffaloes and cows, 253,300 pigs, 3,824 poultry, 1,495.29 hectares of concentrated forests, 349,657 m3 of timber exploitation , and 8,549.3 tons of aquatic products. The fight against illegal fishing (IUU) has achieved many positive results, with many targets reaching 98% - 100%.
Another remarkable result is that science and technology activities have had positive changes, keeping up with the 4th Industrial Revolution, contributing to promoting the restructuring of the agricultural sector.
Most notably, the agricultural sector has effectively deployed a number of applications such as the geographic information system - GIS to monitor and control avian influenza; the Vietnam animal disease information system - VAHIS; the online aquatic disease reporting system; the livestock farm monitoring system (camera) connected to the internet and smartphones, slaughter management applications, and traceability.
People have also strongly developed a number of manufacturing and service industries with high scientific and technological content, especially new technologies such as applying blockchain technology to trace the origin to manage the supply chain and increase the value of pepper and coffee products.
Applying high-tech processes and the Internet of Things (IoT) to the production of phalaenopsis orchids, lilies, strawberries, super sweet tomatoes, and melons; applying biotechnology to the production of forestry trees, flowers, medicinal plants, and the production of microbial products for agricultural production, waste treatment, and environmental protection. From the results achieved, the agricultural sector continues to strive to contribute to the realization of the province's economic growth target of 8% in 2025.
