(Dan Tri) - There has been a wave of backlash after the Blue Mountains City Council in Australia issued a regulation requiring visitors not to wear revealing swimwear such as thongs or G-strings at the swimming pool.

The Blue Mountains Council in New South Wales, Australia, has come under fire after it introduced a rule that prohibits visitors from wearing revealing swimwear at local swimming pools. Items deemed offensive include thongs and G-strings.

However, the new regulation has created a wave of backlash from locals and tourists.

Some argue that the line between thongs and other types of swimsuits is blurred. The city council’s images of swimsuits are not enough to determine what is appropriate and what is not.

"This is an outdated and unreasonable regulation. Swimmers are free to choose what they think is appropriate for them. Why should I care about whether my outfit is appropriate when I go to the pool?" one resident expressed his opinion.

Some have argued that the new regulation reflects gender stereotypes. The banned clothing is all for women. Meanwhile, men’s swimwear, such as tight-fitting trunks and similar, is not mentioned.

"Why are men free to choose their swimwear, while women have to consider whether it is appropriate or not?" asked an Australian guest.

Despite mixed opinions, some people still believe that the city council's new regulation is reasonable in the context of many people abusing public places to show off their bodies excessively.

"You can comfortably wear cool clothes in private places. But the swimming pool is a public place with both adults and children. When coming here, everyone needs to respect the collective," said a resident.

With these opinions, recently, the management representative of the Blue Mountains Recreation Center in Blackheath, Katoomba, Lawson, Springwood and Glenbrook, which manages the swimming pools, said that the unit always encourages customers to shower before going into the pool and to wear the prescribed attire.
