Thereby creating a strong driving force to promote the country's socio -economic development in the new era.
“Just work, no back talk”

Right before the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on April 28, 3 sections of the North-South expressway, including the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi section of more than 35km long, the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang section of more than 54km long through Ha Tinh province and the Bung - Van Ninh section of 49km long through Quang Binh province were completed and put into operation by project management boards under the Ministry of Construction .
Also on April 28, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) temporarily opened two sections of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, including: the section from the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway intersection to Nguyen Van Tao intersection (Nha Be district) and from Phuoc An intersection to National Highway 51 intersection (Dong Nai province). Previously, on April 20, the 70km North - South Expressway section of Van Phong - Nha Trang was also opened to traffic and put into operation.
These are the latest expressway sections to be opened to traffic since the Prime Minister launched the peak emulation movement "500 days and nights to complete 3,000km of expressway" (August 18, 2024).
In order to open the project in time for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, continuously for many months, the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction), project management boards, investors, consultants, contractors, etc. have been working hard with the spirit of "overcoming the sun and overcoming the rain", "only discussing work, not backtracking", overcoming difficulties and obstacles in terms of site, materials, weather, etc., organizing construction throughout holidays and Tet, deploying "3 shifts, 4 teams" according to the direction of the Prime Minister to speed up progress and ensure quality.
The Executive Director of the North-South Expressway Project, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang section, Nguyen Khac Trung, said that thanks to the licensed quarries, the basic site clearance has been resolved, and from contractors, consultants to investors, they have joined in with the highest determination.
“The putting into operation of a number of component projects (sections Bai Vot - Ham Nghi, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang, Bung - Van Ninh, Van Phong - Nha Trang, Ben Luc - Long Thanh and Bien Hoa - Vung Tau) has increased the total length of expressways put into operation nationwide to 2,268km; of which 4 projects have been completed 6 to 9 months ahead of schedule,” informed Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh.
One of three strategic breakthroughs
The Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress considers the synchronous development of infrastructure as one of the three strategic breakthroughs, in which the development of transport infrastructure is an important pillar. The Resolution sets a target of putting 3,000km of expressways into operation by 2025; by 2030, striving to put 5,000km into operation. Thus, according to the set target, from now until the end of the year, there are still more than 700km of expressways to be completed.
According to the Director of the Department of Economics - Construction Investment Management (Ministry of Construction) Le Quyet Tien, to ensure the completion of the target of 3,000km of expressways, the Department has reported to the leaders of the Ministry of Construction, requesting project management boards to closely follow the scene and coordinate closely with localities to complete site clearance and relocation of technical infrastructure at projects, especially the Van Ninh - Cam Lo, Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau, Cao Lanh - Lo Te expressways. The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, Project Management Board 2 and contractors closely coordinate with relevant localities to ensure the supply of materials for the Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan, Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressways.
Regarding construction organization, the Department has requested investors to review and resolutely direct contractors to increase machinery, equipment, and human resources, and organize construction in "3 shifts, 4 teams" to compensate for the slow progress, especially in the projects of Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon, Chi Thanh - Van Phong, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway Component 2 Project, Lo Te - Rach Soi, Can Tho - Hau Giang, Hau Giang - Ca Mau.
Realizing the goal of building 3,000km of expressway is a strategic step, creating a strong driving force for socio-economic development in the new era. The modern expressway system will connect regions, promote trade, logistics and attract investment. When there is an expressway, combined with the planning and arrangement of reasonable intersections, it will help to maximize the potential for developing new economic space from the expressway. This will promote the development of new-generation industrial, service and urban areas, associated with science and technology, innovation, digital economy, green economy and circular economy.
Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh emphasized that the implementation and completion of expressway projects not only contributes positively to the recovery and socio-economic development, but also creates a solid foundation for the country to enter a new era. The Ministry of Construction and localities are determined to complete 3,000km of expressways by 2025 under the direction of the Government and the Prime Minister and strive to complete 5,000km of expressways by 2030 according to the set target.
