Booming startups with artificial intelligence (AI)

Vietnam is making strong progress in the research, development and application of artificial intelligence (AI). Start-ups in the AI field are flourishing and some businesses have launched widely applied products and achieved initial success.

Earlier this July, AI Hay – an AI-powered knowledge search and research platform – announced the completion of its Series A funding round worth $10 million, bringing its total fundraising to over $18 million.

Vietnamese intellectual property

AI Hay was founded by a team of experienced and passionate Vietnamese engineers who have successfully built and developed numerous digital platforms in Vietnam.

With the power of generative AI and interactivity, AI Hay helps users ask any question and receive accurate, reliable results with clear citations, culturally and linguistically appropriate for Vietnam.

Mr. Tran Quang Duc, CEO of AI Hay, said that AI must be a common tool, accessible to every Vietnamese person, starting with students who are considered the force shaping the future of the country.

"This investment is a crucial resource for us to build that future, a great encouragement for the team. This shows the growing confidence of international funds in the intelligence and products developed by Vietnamese people, as well as Vietnam's determination to popularize AI in the spirit of Resolution 57," Duc shared.

Previously, NYB.AI, a startup founded by a group of young Vietnamese entrepreneurs, was granted a patent in Singapore and selected by NVIDIA (a multinational American technology corporation) to participate in the Ignition AI program in the US.

NYB.AI uses AI to accelerate drug discovery, improving the effectiveness of treatments for critical illnesses and bringing more accessible, advanced healthcare solutions to everyone.

Instead of relying on unrealistic simulations, the AI technology of the model "learns" from millions of data points on biological interactions, scans and analyzes billions of compounds, accurately predicts which compounds are likely to interact with pathogens, and immediately eliminates those that are not potential targets.

"Instead of spending years screening compounds in the lab, AI can help shorten this process to a few months, saving costs and improving success rates," said Trieu Vu Duy, CTO of NYB.AI.

Impressive successes

In response to public concerns about information regarding administrative units after the merger effective July 1st, Viettel has developed an AI assistant via a web platform at https://tracuuphuongxa.trolyao.org/. Users can easily look up information about the new administrative units from their computers or smartphones.

In addition, users can ask questions about the administrative unit they want to find out about, and the virtual assistant will provide the information along with the corresponding source documents. Viettel has been successful with its legal virtual assistant and civil servant virtual assistant models, so it has accumulated the questioning habits of Vietnamese people and provides answers that are relevant to the situation.

Changes in administrative boundaries, names, and related regulations have caused some confusion among citizens and businesses, leading to a surge in inquiries and requests for administrative procedures.

The AI Citizen-Business Assistant developed by Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) can provide information automatically 24/7, accurately and instantly answering thousands of questions about new administrative boundaries, name changes, and documents requiring adjustment (household registration, citizen identification card, business license, land use right certificate, etc.).

Specifically, based on the information provided by the user (type of document to be changed, old/new address, type of business), the AI assistant automatically identifies the administrative procedures that need to be followed.

From there, it guides you through the steps and necessary documents, provides direct links to the electronic forms to be filled out, and even supports automatic filling of some information if available from the national database, minimizing errors and saving time for citizens.

Save processing time.

VNPT is developing an integrated AI application to support administrative procedures at key touchpoints, helping officials and civil servants handle them more efficiently. In Ho Chi Minh City, the AI application supporting administrative procedures has been piloted since May 2025, yielding positive results.

The AI process automation assistant has supported the processing of an average of 10,000-13,000 applications submitted in person each day, saving over 1,400 hours of processing time per day, over 30,800 hours per month, and 369,600 hours per year, equivalent to the work of 175 staff members.

This AI assistant also supports the processing of 5,000-6,000 online applications per day. This saves over 550 hours of processing time per day, more than 12,100 hours per month, and 145,200 hours per year, equivalent to the work of nearly 70 staff members.

There are already over 700 AI startups.

Recently, many Vietnamese startups have raised millions of USD in investment from global investment funds, with a surge in the number of AI startups as the AI ecosystem in Vietnam has received significant investment and development.

Data from PitchBook Data Inc. shows that Vietnam had approximately 60 AI startups in 2022, but this number increased to 765 by the end of 2024, with further increases expected in 2025. With this figure, Vietnam ranks second in Southeast Asia in terms of the number of AI startups, after Singapore.

Meanwhile, a report by Research and Markets predicts that the AI market in Vietnam will grow from US$2.15 billion (2023) to US$23.06 billion (2028) with an annual growth rate of 48.5%.

Shaping the future with AI.

"Building the Future Together with AI" has been chosen as the theme for the Youth Start-up Award 2025.

In its sixth season, the program continues to unleash the potential for innovation in science and technology, seeking out and introducing startups that apply key digital technologies to solve practical problems in research, management, production, and innovation, offering solutions in diverse fields.

The Tuoi Tre Start-up Award 2025, organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper and the Vietnam Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with the Global Integration Business Consulting Company (GIBC) and the Business Support Center for Young Entrepreneurs (BSSC), officially launched on July 22nd.

The program aims to identify and honor promising entrepreneurs who make significant contributions to the overall development of science and technology in the country, with the goal of achieving breakthroughs and important advancements in science and technology development by 2030, elevating the country's position in the region and the world.
