This year's crop, the whole Phu Yen commune planted 922 hectares of rice, of which there were more than 600 hectares of organic rice, mainly varieties: J02, BC15, Dai Thom 8, sticky rice and some local varieties... These are rice varieties with outstanding advantages, good resistance to pests and diseases. Although at the beginning of the crop, the weather was unfavorable, the drought lasted for a long time, the ripening stage was affected by the circulation of storms No. 9 and 10, affecting the growth and development of rice plants, but with the close direction of the Party Committee, the commune government, and the initiative of farmers in care, this year's crop still achieved quite high yield, an average of 5.6 - 5.8 tons/ha.

Mr. Dinh Duc Thang, Chairman of Phu Yen Commune People's Committee, informed: Right from the beginning of the season, the Commune People's Committee prioritized allocating funds to repair the irrigation canal system, ensuring water for production. Directed specialized departments to coordinate with the management boards of villages and sub-areas to guide people to monitor the growth process of rice plants, monitor the situation of pests and diseases, use pesticides in accordance with regulations on types, dosages and collect used packaging. Up to this point, farmers in Phu Yen commune have harvested about 80% of the winter-spring rice area.

In the fields of Buc sub-region, the largest rice growing area in Phu Yen, the harvest atmosphere is bustling. Farmers mobilize all means and workers to urgently harvest the rice crop with the motto "green at home is better than ripe in the fields". Ms. Dinh Thi Hanh, Buc sub-region, shared: My family planted more than 2,000 m² of J02 rice variety. Taking advantage of the sunny weather, I hired a team of combine harvesters to harvest the rice, with a rental price of 600,000 VND/1,000 m² of field. The machine can harvest, thresh, winnow, and bag the rice at the same time, saving time and costs.

In Chieng Thuong sub-area, 160 member households of Quang Huy Agricultural Service Cooperative are currently cultivating 30 hectares of rice in an organic manner and are collaborating with households in the commune to cultivate an additional 75 hectares of rice. Ms. Cam Thi Ngan, Director of the Cooperative, said: Right from the beginning of the season, we have received support from the project "Connecting Agriculture: Enhancing Capacity for Small-Scale Farmers through Transparent and Sustainable Trade" with funding from the Embassy of Ireland. Cooperative members are trained in organic rice production techniques towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions; applying biological measures to replace chemicals in care and pest control; supporting microbial preparations to treat straw in the fields; applying eGAP to the care process...
This is a production technique aimed at a sustainable rice cultivation system, environmentally friendly and able to adapt well to climate change. With not too complicated processes and techniques, people can easily access and apply them to practical cultivation, minimizing the use of pesticides, maintaining soil fertility, and the average rice yield is 6-7 tons/ha, an increase of 10 to 15% compared to before the project was implemented. The quality of rice is highly appreciated, meeting domestic organic standards and aiming for international certification (EU Organic or USDA Organic). The selling price of organic rice of Quang Huy Agricultural Service Cooperative is from 30 to 40 thousand VND/kg, 1.5 to 1.8 times higher than rice produced by traditional methods, bringing stable income to cooperative members.

After months of planting and caring, this year's crop in Phu Yen has achieved high yields, bringing joy to farmers. In particular, the effectiveness of sustainable farming solutions will create the basis and motivation for people to continue to maintain and expand effective organic production models, contributing to protecting health and the ecological environment.
