At primary and secondary school levels, Music and Fine Arts are compulsory subjects with a minimum duration of 35 periods/class/year. The content focuses on forming aesthetic emotions, developing musical and artistic abilities, skills, and qualities for students; expanding understanding of art in relation to culture, history, and society. The whole province has 325 primary and secondary education institutions that have implemented many solutions to improve the quality of teaching and learning these two subjects.

At To Hieu Primary School, the music lessons of teachers and students take place in an exciting atmosphere. The classroom is equipped with an organ, music theory instruments, learning materials and a modern sound system... Teacher Phan Thi Hien, a music teacher, shared: I often use illustrative videos , sounds, music learning software, and virtual characters (AI, Kitty cat...) to make the lessons lively and attractive; encourage students to be creative in drawing pictures to music, organize students to carry out small music projects such as "making musical instruments from recycled materials", "performing the theme song"...

For high school level, Art (including Music and Fine Arts) is regulated as an elective subject. Students can choose subjects in the technology and art group that suit their interests and abilities. In addition, schools base on the conditions of the teaching staff and equipment to organize teaching in accordance with the duration of 70 periods/class/year. In particular, Art orients students to develop artistic ability, have a deeper understanding of music/fine arts in relation to history - culture - society , apply knowledge and skills to life, linked to career orientation.

At Van Ho Ethnic Boarding Secondary and High School, Art classes are loved by many students. Teacher Nguyen The Hung, the school principal, said: The school currently has two classrooms for Art, along with a team of basic specialized teachers who meet the teaching requirements. Teachers actively innovate teaching methods, combining theoretical learning and experience with career orientation, thanks to which students love and are more proactive in learning, while promoting their artistic creativity.

In reality, the implementation of teaching Fine Arts and Music at educational institutions in the province still faces many difficulties. The teaching staff of these two subjects is about 400 short of the demand, especially in remote schools. Many schools have to arrange part-time teachers or short-term contracts, and the facilities and equipment for teaching Fine Arts and Music are still lacking and not synchronized, making the organization of lessons not really attractive and effective. For high school level, most schools have not yet implemented teaching Art due to lack of teachers.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Chung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, informed: Since the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the Department has organized 2 training courses for more than 320 primary school teachers and staff in the province. The content focuses on topics on improving teaching capacity in Music and Fine Arts through STEAM educational activities; applying artificial intelligence to create modern and attractive lectures. At the same time, the education sector has also gradually increased investment in facilities, teaching equipment, supplemented textbooks and reference materials for arts subjects for schools, ensuring teaching quality.

Improving the quality of teaching Music and Fine Arts is not only a requirement of the 2018 General Education Program, but also a process of nurturing the soul, inspiring creativity and aesthetic qualities in each student. The Department of Education and Training continues to implement solutions to overcome the shortage of teachers, placing orders for specialized teacher training with Son La College. At the same time, schools are encouraged to build a learning environment rich in artistic experiences, creating opportunities for students to develop comprehensively in both knowledge and aesthetics.
