On April 16th, the People's Procuracy of Thua Thien Hue province announced that it had approved the decision to prosecute and detain Nguyen Phan Phu Nguyen, Director of Thong Nhat Automobile Design Company Limited, and the decision to prosecute Ngo Van Tien, former Deputy Director of the Thua Thien Hue Motor Vehicle Inspection Center, both for the crime of accepting bribes.

Specifically, through the expanded investigation into irregularities at the Thua Thien Hue Motor Vehicle Inspection Center, the investigating agency determined that Nguyen received bribes totaling over 900 million VND and Tien received bribes totaling over 64 million VND. The defendants falsified several procedures to issue certificates of technical safety and environmental protection for modified motor vehicles.
As Thanh Nien newspaper reported, on the afternoon of February 16, 2023, the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police served the decision to prosecute and temporarily detain three leaders of the Thua Thien Hue Motor Vehicle Inspection Center for the act of accepting bribes.
At this time, investigators discovered that, since 2018, these defendants had been receiving money from many owners of motor vehicles to legalize vehicle modification documents and certificates of technical safety and environmental protection inspection for road motor vehicles.
