Samsung releases security update patch on Samsung Galaxy phones (Photo: SIPA).
A bug in the way One UI handles clipboard storage means sensitive data such as passwords or financial information, once copied, can be stored in an insecure plaintext format that does not automatically delete itself. Samsung has confirmed the issue.
"Never forget" cache poses risks
The core issue lies in the way One UI, Samsung's custom user interface, handles clipboard history, unlike some other operating systems that automatically clear the clipboard after a short period of time or when copying from sensitive fields.
The current One UI operating system stores everything a user copies — from a simple text snippet to a complex password from a password manager, credit card details, or cryptocurrency wallet keys — as plain text in the clipboard history.
More worryingly, this history has no mechanism to automatically delete over time.
This creates a significant security risk. If your phone falls into the wrong hands, or even if a friend or family member borrows your unlocked phone, they can access your clipboard history and see all the sensitive information you've copied before.
Although this issue has been reported by users on tech forums and Samsung support forums since 2019, it has only recently received widespread attention and official confirmation from the company.
Samsung releases security patch
Amidst user concerns, Samsung has officially released the May update.
This update is currently compatible with products including Galaxy A56, A36, A26, and Galaxy S25 Series.
The highlight of Samsung's new update is the ability to quickly launch the Gemini AI assistant, users just need to press and hold the side button to activate this tool.
Gemini also integrates Samsung's native applications such as calendar, clock, notes... Users can command AI to create events, set alarms by voice command similar to Apple's Siri.
In addition to AI improvements, the May security patch also enhances protection for Galaxy phones.
While details about this patch aren't listed, according to Samsung, it ensures your phone stays safe from the latest threats.
