xAI launches Grokipedia - AI encyclopedia to compete with Wikipedia

Billionaire Elon Musk's xAI company introduces Grokipedia – an AI-generated online encyclopedia, promoted as “neutral and superior to Wikipedia” with more than 885,000 articles.

On October 28, tech billionaire Elon Musk's xAI company officially launched the online encyclopedia Grokipedia, competing directly with Wikipedia - a platform that Mr. Musk has repeatedly accused of "ideological bias."

According to information on the homepage, the first version 0.1 of Grokipedia - which Mr. Musk said is "superior to Wikipedia" - currently has more than 885,000 articles, much lower than the more than 7 million English articles on Wikipedia.

xAI said the content of its online encyclopedia Grokipedia was generated by artificial intelligence (AI) and its language assistant Grok, a language tool promoted by Mr. Musk as having superior understanding and free from bias.

At the Grokipedia launch, xAI said it would soon release an updated version 1.0, which Musk said would be “10 times better” than the first version 0.1.

Sharing on social network X after the launch, billionaire Musk emphasized that the ultimate goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is to provide “the whole truth.”

Wikipedia was founded in 2001 and is an open-source online encyclopedia, operating based on content contributions from volunteers and funding from the community, allowing internet users to compile and edit content.
