At Chau Son Secondary School (Phu Ly city), the review work for the entrance exam to grade 10 high school is taking place urgently and focused. This school year, the school has 168 grade 9 students. According to the school leaders, after completing the 2024-2025 school year program, the school has focused on reviewing knowledge for grade 9 students based on the regulations of Circular 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) on extra teaching and learning so that the review plan, although not having much time compared to previous school years, still ensures consolidation and improvement of knowledge for students. At the same time, doing a good job of streaming, counseling, and career orientation for students; providing information about mock exams organized by high schools in the province so that students can proactively register to participate according to their needs.
Teacher Pham Thi Minh Trang, a teacher at Chau Son Secondary School, shared: This school year, I was assigned to teach review lessons for 9th grade students preparing for the 10th grade entrance exam. Identifying this as a key task, in addition to proactively developing a specific review lesson plan, I have increased coordination with homeroom teachers of 9th grade classes and teachers of exam review subjects to classify and evaluate student quality to organize teaching and learning in a reasonable manner; actively exchange and share expertise with colleagues to find appropriate teaching methods to stimulate students' interest. Along with that, I regularly participate in professional activities at school and city levels to further improve my professional capacity; promptly update information and changes in subjects to find documents and key exam review topics; participate in compiling exam questions, contributing to building a set of exam questions to serve effective review. The school also organizes safe mock exams, creating opportunities for students to consolidate their knowledge, master their psychology, methods, and test-taking skills, thereby having the best preparation for the official exam.
In previous school years, extra classes were organized by schools in the afternoons during the week, so 9th graders had more time to review and consolidate their knowledge. However, with 2 periods/subject/week as stipulated in Circular 29, students' self-study time is the main thing, so it requires great concentration and determination from each student. Do Ha My, a 9B student at Hoang Dong Secondary School (Duy Tien) shared: I plan to take the entrance exam to Duy Tien B High School and I am currently trying to prepare the best knowledge and mentality before taking the exam. Although there is not much time to review in class, teachers have made efforts to equip us with the necessary knowledge. We are given many types of questions and exercises to assess skills in each subject. To achieve the best exam results, my friends and I also have to actively review at home, practice test-taking skills...
According to teacher Nguyen Ngoc Khiem, Principal of Hoang Dong Secondary School, Circular 29 took effect when the school entered the phase of accelerating review for students. Therefore, the school has adjusted the review plan; directed professional groups to develop subjecteducation plans suitable to reality, ensuring that they meet the program content and develop types of questions to help students review knowledge, practice test-taking skills in class, focusing on fostering self-study methods for students. Also in the past many school years, the school has promoted coordination with vocational schools in the province so that students can access training information from the schools, contributing to the good work of educational streaming and helping students orient their careers in the best way.
