The family of Mr. Vu Van Truong, Ban Cai hamlet, Yen Trach commune (Phu Luong), is happy in their new house. |
Up to now, Vu Van Truong and his wife Hoang Thi My, in Ban Cai hamlet, Yen Trach commune (Phu Luong), still cannot forget the extremely difficult days of more than two years ago. At that time, the whole family had to live in a makeshift thatched house deep in the forest, with difficult access. Truong suffered from kidney disease, his eldest son had kidney failure, and the father and son took turns being hospitalized. My had just given birth to a baby and had just been in a traffic accident, so her health had seriously declined.
When it seemed like there was no way out, a miracle happened. Volunteer groups and kind-hearted people came to him and asked the government to support land and funds for his family to leave the forest and return to the village center. The 70m² house was worth more than 100 million VND, of which over 80% of the funds were supported by volunteer groups. Since moving to the new place, Mr. Truong's family life has turned a new page. Although his health is still weak, he started doing small things: growing vegetables, raising chickens and ducks to improve his meals. When his health improved, the couple applied for jobs at a wood workshop near their home, earning more than ten million VND per month.
Mr. Truong emotionally shared: “The house has a very special meaning to us. It is a source of motivation for the family to strive to rise up”. From a temporary place to live, lack of food, illness, and no stable income, now having a house and a job, my wife and I have money to buy rice, bicycles, and books for our children to go to school.

Also in Yen Trach commune, Ma Van Vo's family is one of the poor households with extremely difficult circumstances. The family has four people and little arable land. He and his wife are not as normal and agile as everyone else, their jobs are unstable, so their life is always difficult and lacking. Thanks to the support of the Phu Luong District "For the Poor" Fund Mobilization Committee, the District Red Cross Society and philanthropists, Vo's family was supported to build a new house on an area of 65m², with a total cost of 147 million VND. Most of the cost of building the house came from that sharing.
The good news is that since having a stable place to live, the couple has proactively worked for hire, saved up to buy a buffalo, the family's first major asset, opening up hope for a life rising from poverty.
For Mrs. Ngo Thi Can and her children, 75 years old, in Lang Giai hamlet, La Hien commune (Vo Nhai), the new house is like a new beginning, both a support for the end of life and a ray of hope for the future ahead.
Her son, after returning from re-education, has started working at a company in Pho Yen. Thanks to the cooperation of the government, organizations, businesses and philanthropists, her family received 60 million VND to build a spacious, closed, 90m², two-bedroom house worth 240 million VND. Sitting in the new, clean and cozy house, Mrs. Can smiled gently: "With a new house, spacious like this, I will no longer have to worry about getting my son married!"
Mr. Tam Van Cu, Chairman of La Hien Commune People's Committee informed us. Ms. Can is one of 68 poor and near-poor households that will be supported to build new houses, repair and eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the commune in 2025. The total cost for these houses is 2.1 billion VND from the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels (of which 60 million VND is for new construction and 30 million VND is for repair). To date, 100% of households have started construction and completed on schedule.

In addition to funding from the province and district, the Commune Steering Committee has launched a campaign to mobilize all people to support the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. Accordingly, the commune received 16 tons of cement, more than 50 million VND in cash and hundreds of working days from agencies, businesses, officials, party members and people.
By the end of April 2025, the province had supported the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for 1,838 households (1,221 new houses built; 617 houses repaired), reaching the target 8 months ahead of the deadline set by the Government . The total budget mobilized by the province to implement the program was nearly 195 billion VND. In the 2021-2024 period, the province supported the construction and repair of 4,175 houses for poor and near-poor households; significantly contributing to reducing the poverty rate according to the multidimensional poverty standard from 6.14% in 2022 to 2.04% in 2024. |
Each new home built is not just a material thing, but a place to nurture change, to nurture hope, to kindle determination and to open up a new journey for many people who have struggled through hardships.
