Smart manufacturing, a trend-driven direction

Since 2016, Binh Duong has implemented the Smart City project to anticipate the 4th industrial revolution and has achieved many successes. In the new phase, Binh Duong is determined to continue to make breakthroughs, bringing the Smart City project to a higher level of development - the Innovation Zone, creating new momentum, meeting the needs of people and businesses.

Confident in the path you have chosen

Mr. Mai Hung Dung, Standing Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that the 4.0 industrial revolution creates unpredictable variables, requiring increasingly high supply chains and technology content in production. To meet the new requirements, Binh Duong has been developing a new type of ecosystem, supplementing the industrial - urban - service model. That is to build an innovation and science and technology (S&T) ecosystem, build smart industrial parks (IPs), smart, green, sustainable urban areas. Moving towards building IPs associated with S&T, attracting industries with high added value, bringing Binh Duong's industry to a higher segment in the global value chain, gradually building a new economic development driver, replacing labor-intensive and land-intensive.

In the current period, Binh Duong has determined to build new and upgrade existing industrial parks to become green and smart industrial parks with the ability to provide 4.0 technology platforms such as IoT, big data to attract investors to deploy smart factory models and smart manufacturing. This is also the way to promote cooperation in developing smart industrial parks and also to attract investors in the new period.

In fact, the fourth industrial revolution has been having an increasingly strong impact on all sectors, promoting the process of goods production towards smart production, completely changing the goods production industry. If we do not go forward, we will certainly go backward and this is the path that businesses must take.

Talking to us, Dr. Pham Tuan Anh, Director of Becamex IDC's Smart Manufacturing Office, said that in the world , smart manufacturing has become a trend. Many enterprises in countries with advanced manufacturing such as Germany, the US, Japan, Korea, etc. have applied it. Through that, we can see the importance of smart manufacturing. Enterprises have pioneered in researching and applying smart manufacturing, becoming the driving force for the manufacturing industry of these countries. At the same time, many countries have had policies to support and promote smart manufacturing to create rapid and profound changes, creating momentum for the economy to break through.

In particular, it identifies solutions to support businesses in enhancing smart manufacturing, creating new industries towards a creative economy,” said Dr. Pham Tuan Anh. What Dr. Pham Tuan Anh emphasized is that the application of technology helps manufacturing businesses exploit the power of data, thereby improving productivity, enhancing competitive advantages, etc. The transition from a traditional to a modern production model poses challenges for many factories to manage and operate effectively.

In order not to be left behind in the race to integrate and become a part of the global supply chain, Binh Duong enterprises have been making efforts to consider applying smart manufacturing to the production line, creating competitiveness. Talking to us, Mr. Le Duy Nhat Luan, Production Director of Takako Vietnam Company (VSIP I Industrial Park) affirmed that production and sustainable growth based on digital transformation is the trend of many enterprises around the world. To meet this need, Takako Company is aiming to apply smart manufacturing through the factory improvement project. The results have brought about progressive and sustainable solutions in the management and production at the current factory.

“By connecting machines, equipment, production stages, and other parts with digital technology, using artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) as the main platform to control the entire production process, we have improved labor productivity by 2.5 times compared to before. However, to be able to understand and directly apply smart manufacturing to the production process is not simple. Restructuring a traditional production process or building and designing a completely new smart production model is a difficult problem in terms of knowledge and budget,” said Mr. Le Duy Nhat Luan.

Any application to improve product quality must have a foundation from transparent scientific and technological research. Next, we must invest in people and finally, we must invest in equipment.
