On the morning of March 31, Kon Plong district (Kon Tum) experienced 4 consecutive earthquakes, the largest one measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale.

According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Earth Sciences, early this morning, in Kon Plong district (Kon Tum), 4 consecutive earthquakes occurred.

The first one hit at 4:08 a.m. and was a magnitude 3.1. About two minutes later, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck.

The third earthquake at 4:46 a.m. occurred in Kon Plong district, a magnitude 2.6 earthquake occurred. The depth of the epicenter of all three earthquakes was about 8.1 km.

The fourth earthquake occurred at 9:29 a.m., measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale, also in Kon Plong district, with a focal depth of about 8.1 km.

Disaster risk level 0. Currently, the Institute of Earth Sciences is continuing to monitor these earthquakes.

Previously, at 4:38 p.m. on March 30, a 3.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in Kon Plong district, with a focal depth of about 8.2 km. The natural disaster risk level is level 0.

From April 2021 to now, hundreds of earthquakes have occurred in Kon Tum, concentrated in Kon Plong district, in which the earthquakes caused widespread tremors.

The largest earthquake occurred at noon on July 28, 2024 with a magnitude of 5 on the Richter scale, before that on August 23, 2022 was a magnitude 4.7 earthquake.

According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Earth Sciences, "triggered earthquakes" are the cause of earthquakes in recent years in Kon Tum province.
