Chinese woman decides to invest in herself wisely to have happiness in old age.
Article by author Tran on Toutiao platform (China)
It took me many years to realize that investing in myself is the least expensive but most profitable investment in the later years of life. So since my 40s, instead of keeping money in a savings account or buying more assets, I have been saving money every month to do the following 4 things. Up to now, I have a happy retirement life, full of both material and spiritual things, successful children, and guaranteed health.
Health
Being lazy and not exercising physically and mentally will make us more prone to depression and illness.
So I always try to exercise hard, do everything myself from the smallest housework, limit foods high in fat, sugar, salty spices, and invest in clean, quality foods .
Human physical health cannot be improved by spending money on medicine but requires regular exercise and maintenance.
Always aware of this, I almost do not have any chronic diseases, only need to go for regular check-ups due to bone and joint pain and rarely have to go to the hospital.
This saves time, money and effort for yourself and your children.
Personal preference
When a person indulges in something they love, they recharge their body and mind.
Neighbor Liu is a housewife and often complains that she feels frustrated with her current life which revolves around family and children.
Hearing my suggestion to try to find her youthful passion, Ms. Tran began to remember her forgotten hobby of photography.
In her free time, Ms. Luu invites her family and friends to go out and travel, sightsee, and take photos. Thanks to maintaining her passion, Ms. Tran's personality has also become more pleasant, she smiles more often, and her appearance is increasingly youthful.
I often remind myself that no matter how busy I am, I should take time every month to travel and explore new lands near and far because this is the time that makes me happy.
Until I was 60, I still maintained this habit. Thanks to that, I met many new retirees to share stories and experiences with, and every day was full of excitement.
Improve knowledge
No matter what age you are, it is necessary to continuously improve your value through learning. There were years when I was busy with work and family, so I did not learn any new knowledge. This made me feel like a programmed machine, not progressing in any aspect.
After turning 40, I started buying books again, registering for courses to supplement professional skills to set an example for my children to study hard. Many of my friends think that studying is a waste because we are old, but I don't care. Even now, when I am over 60, I still deduct my pension every month to buy books. When you get old, studying will keep you mentally sharp, broaden your understanding of the big world outside, and you won't feel left behind by the next generation.
Invest in your children
In an online survey on the topic "What do you regret the most at the end of your life?", 62% of respondents chose "Regret not educating your children properly". Raising good children is one of the most important tasks of parents. A family can only be truly rich when it raises compassionate, intelligent and capable children.
So I spared no expense in investing in my children’s foreign language education, listening to their needs to choose the right subjects for them and spending time teaching them life skills. Now my children are all grown up and have stable careers. They are always grateful for having the opportunity to study in the best environment possible for their parents and have not forgotten to show their gratitude to me. For someone who has passed the age of 60, that is enough to make me satisfied.
