After smart hospitals, Vietnam will move towards virtual hospital model

Speaking at the 33rd scientific conference of Bach Mai Hospital and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Stroke Center, Mr. Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that the hospital has now applied electronic medical records throughout the process, thereby reducing waiting time for patients, reducing the time for medical staff to carry out administrative procedures and thereby increasing the hospital's service capacity.

Bach Mai's goal after completing the smart hospital application is to develop a virtual hospital model parallel to the current existing hospital.

"In the US, Mercy Hospital is the first hospital in the US as well as the first in the world to develop a virtual hospital model. In which, the hospital will be able to care for patients at home, provide remote medical services, provide remote "hospital beds"...

Through a survey after implementation, the virtual hospital model helps reduce 50% of hospitalizations, reduce costs for patients, and reduce deaths by 30-40% compared to national standards," Mr. Giap cited.

According to Mr. Giap, the virtual hospital model allows doctors to care for patients through smart devices that connect individual patients with hospitals for examination, consultation, diagnosis, risk stratification, early intervention and indication of whether the patient needs to go to the hospital (existing physical hospital) or receive treatment at home...

In case the patient is far away, the virtual hospital will connect with the nearest existing hospital and coordinate examination and treatment. This model combines patient care at home, the nearest medical staff but the focal point is still from the virtual hospital.

Mr. Giap said that after Bach Mai completed the steps to develop a smart hospital, including developing the bachmai care app as a health care "assistant", when a patient needs to come for a medical examination, this assistant will ask about the patient's medical history, guide the unit and department the patient should go to, transfer patient information to the doctor before the patient comes for a medical examination..., the hospital will move towards developing a virtual hospital model like Mercy has developed today.
