From 9 a.m., the Jujitsu finals began. The Vietnamese team participated in several notable events, including: men's doubles (Sai Cong Nguyen - Nguyen Anh Tung), women's doubles (Phung Thi Hong Ngoc - Nguyen Ngoc Bich), and four weight categories: 62kg men, 77kg men, 52kg women, and 63kg women.
In the women's doubles event, the pair Phung Thi Hong Ngoc and Nguyen Ngoc Bich scored 48 points, winning the Bronze Medal. Thailand led with 51 and 48.5 points respectively; Laos finished second and did not win a medal. This marks the first medal for Vietnamese sports at the 33rd SEA Games.
Sharing her thoughts after the competition, martial artist Phung Thi Hong Ngoc said that the score achieved "exceeded the team's expectations." According to Hong Ngoc, competing in the qualifying and final rounds within a short period of time did not pose any obstacle, and the athletes still had sufficient recovery time.
"When training with the team, the intensity is even more rigorous. Thanks to coach Nguyen Minh Phuong's training plan, we always maintain good physical fitness," she said.
Athlete Nguyen Ngoc Bich expressed her joy at becoming the first person to bring home a medal for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 33rd SEA Games. She affirmed that the entire team will strive harder in the following events to achieve even better results.
Assessing her opponent, Ngoc Bich said she had faced Thai fighters many times in various tournaments, so both of them competed with a relaxed mindset, focusing on the goal of achieving the highest score and displaying their best spirit in the ring.
Next, the male athletes performed effectively. The pairs Tran Huu Tuan-To Anh Minh and Sai Cong Nguyen-Nguyen Anh Tung respectively won two more bronze medals in the men's doubles event.
The fourth bronze medal came from boxer Dang Dinh Tung in the 77kg category after losing to his Thai opponent in the semi-final.
Thus, Jujitsu has contributed 4 Bronze Medals. These are also the first achievements of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at this year's Games.
Not only Jujitsu, but teams in other sports also got off to a positive start.
In Taekwondo, the pair of athletes Nguyen Thi Kim Ha and Nguyen Trong Phuc performed impressively, defeating the Thai duo to reach the final of the standard mixed doubles poomsae (forms) event. Vietnam will face Singapore in the gold medal match taking place in the early afternoon.
In swimming, Jeremie Luong and Tran Van Nguyen Quoc both qualified for the men's 100m freestyle final with times of 50.63 seconds and 50.85 seconds, respectively.
Swimmer Vo Thi My Tien also excelled, qualifying for the women's 200m butterfly final after finishing third in the qualifying round with a time of 2 minutes 16.24 seconds.
