Doc Man and Dong Do areas are currently the largest flower and ornamental plant production areas in Binh Khe ward, with a total area of 47 hectares, with more than 500 households participating in production. Of which, the flower production area in Doc Man area is 27 hectares, and the ornamental plant production area in Dong Do area is 20 hectares.
Thanks to the experience of growers and suitable sandy soil, Binh Khe has developed concentrated growing areas, flower and ornamental plant villages with varieties of chrysanthemums, roses, peony, peach, kumquat... The busiest and most bustling time here starts from December 20, when traders come to buy and people come to visit and shop.
However, to be able to transport goods to the central axis of Binh Khe, farmers in this concentrated flower and ornamental plant production area face many difficulties. Because the road connecting the production area has not been invested in synchronously. People have to travel more than 2km by motorbike to transport flowers and ornamental plants to the central area. The road is narrow, if not transported carefully, it will affect the quality of the plants. This is also something that many households in the concentrated flower and ornamental plant production area worry about.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Tuyen (Dong Do area) said: For many years, we have grown flowers and ornamental plants and have also formed a concentrated agricultural production area, creating a brand for the locality. Currently, the area for growing flowers and ornamental plants in the area is very large, but during the harvest season, traders place orders, people in the area have difficulty traveling, and have difficulty accessing the market. We hope that the government will pay attention to investing in roads and bridges, connecting the concentrated flower and ornamental plant production area of Binh Khe ward, creating favorable conditions for people to develop production, shortening the distance to the central area.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, Head of the Economic - Urban Infrastructure Department of Binh Khe Ward, said: After the 2-level local government model came into operation, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Binh Khe Ward actively reviewed the planning and paid special attention to voters' opinions and recommendations on agricultural production. Including the recommendation to invest in building roads and bridges, connecting the flower production area of Doc Man area with the ornamental plant growing area of Dong Do area, for easy access to the central route, convenient for travel and trading of goods. With the above recommendation, the local government has reviewed and inspected the current status, proposed to include it in the medium-term public investment planning for the period 2026-2030. However, to implement the above investment and construction, attention and support in terms of capital from the province is needed. Contributing to creating a synchronous and smooth infrastructure for concentrated agricultural production areas, convenient for people to develop the local economy.
Flowers and ornamental plants are considered the main crops of Binh Khe ward, not only protecting the bright - green - clean - beautiful ecological environment, but also being one of the economic spearheads to increase income for people associated with building new rural areas and civilized urban areas. Therefore, paying attention to investing in building infrastructure connecting concentrated production areas will create favorable momentum for economic, cultural and social development in the ward in the coming time.
