Lo River proactively prevents and combats natural disasters

In 2024, storm No. 3 passed by, leaving behind serious consequences, significantly affecting the lives of people in the province. Right from the time storm No. 3 was about to make landfall, the District Party Committee and People's Committee of Song Lo district issued many directives on proactively and urgently implementing storm response.

In the days following the storm, due to the influence of storm No. 3, heavy rain, combined with floods from upstream, the water level of the Lo River rose above alert level 2, locally isolating many residential areas, flooding 510 households and causing damage to over 920 hectares of rice and crops in the district. In response to this situation, Song Lo district reviewed and assessed the situation, promptly directed and commanded response work.

The District Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) has directed units and localities to focus on responding to the risk of floods and landslides; closely monitor forecasts and warnings of heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides, and promptly inform authorities and people to proactively prevent, respond, and minimize damage. Prepare human resources, equipment, and materials to be ready to respond to storms according to the "4 on-site" motto.

Disaster prevention and rescue drills are regularly organized by Song Lo district.

The police, army, youth, militia, disaster prevention and control teams, and grassroots security and order protection forces have proactively coordinated and cooperated, performing well the tasks of providing information and warnings about natural disasters and floods; helping people to reinforce their houses; moving assets and urgently evacuating 764 households with over 2,600 people; performing well the tasks of ensuring security, order, traffic safety, and safety in flooded areas.

In addition, Song Lo district also pays special attention to relief work, taking care of people's lives, providing food and drinking water, receiving relief from units, groups and individuals, and delivering it directly to flooded and isolated households...

With early initiative, along with urgent and drastic direction of the District Party Committee and People's Committee, mobilizing the participation of the entire political system in proactively and quickly deploying many synchronous measures to proactively and be ready to respond to natural disasters. Storm No. 3 passed through the district, there were no human casualties, minimizing property damage.

Clearly identifying the importance of PCTT&TKCN work, from the beginning of 2025, Song Lo district has strictly implemented the province's guidelines for natural disaster prevention, search and rescue and coordinated with functional agencies to conduct inspections, reviews, adjustments, and develop plans for key dike points and irrigation works in the management area.

In order to respond to natural disasters, the Party Committees and authorities at all levels in the district have basically implemented the provisions of the law, the directive documents of the Central and the province on disaster prevention and control and search and rescue work; in which disaster prevention and control and search and rescue is identified as one of the top important, urgent, regular and continuous political tasks; creating strong changes in awareness and action, improving the effectiveness of disaster prevention and control and search and rescue.

The PCTT&TKCN forces at all levels have been proactive in implementing tasks, organizing serious shifts, regularly monitoring weather, natural disasters, and incidents; have courage, experience, and are always ready to carry out all assigned tasks.

Promote propaganda work on natural disaster prevention, rescue and relief for people in the district.

Accordingly, the Agriculture Department of Song Lo district coordinated with the Irrigation Company to assess the safety level and develop a plan to promptly repair damage to the reservoir system and drainage pumping station systems.

Coordinate with the development of PCTT&TKCN plans at reservoirs and remaining drainage systems according to the hierarchy; conduct dredging and remove obstacles on the drainage river system, drainage channels, and drainage axes according to the management hierarchy.

Carry out repairs, maintenance and trial operation of the dam system and machinery and equipment; regularly patrol, detect and promptly handle violations; prepare materials such as wave-breaking tarpaulins, sacks, life jackets, etc. always in readiness.

The district has proactively developed a plan for natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue for the whole district and directed communes and units to develop plans that are close to local realities. Strengthen the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue at all levels; prepare conditions for materials, means, and logistics; prepare forces to respond to natural disasters according to the motto "4 on-site".

The District Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control has strengthened propaganda and warnings about natural disasters, raising people's awareness in proactively responding to emergency situations.

Villages are equipped with loudspeaker systems to promptly inform about weather conditions, warn about natural disasters and disseminate knowledge and experience in proactively preventing and combating natural disasters, especially in vulnerable areas, where floods and landslides frequently occur, or where there is a high risk of severe cold. Maintain militia and self-defense forces and disaster prevention teams in communes to be ready to respond when situations arise.
