Big waves sank 4 fishing boats off Phan Ri Cua coast

Due to the impact of high tides and big waves, the coastal commune of Phan Ri Cua (Lam Dong province) recorded 4 fishing boats being sunk by big waves, many residential areas were partially flooded.

According to the People's Committee of Phan Ri Cua commune, by the morning of October 30, about 150 households in Thanh Giang 1, Thanh Giang 2 neighborhoods and hamlet 1 of Hoa Minh commune were flooded from 0.3 to 0.5 meters deep. Local authorities are counting the damage. High tides and big waves also caused 4 fishing boats to sink, of which 3 were anchored on the shore waiting to be sold or dismantled; another boat had its engine turned off when entering Phan Ri Cua estuary, drifted aground and was overturned by waves and sank.

Many fishermen along the coast of Chi Cong, Phan Ri Cua commune, took advantage of the opportunity to go ashore to avoid the rain and big waves.

Regarding traffic infrastructure, some roads are partially flooded, such as Bach Dang Street of Thanh Giang 1 and 2 villages towards the river and some roads in other residential areas.

Immediately after the flood, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Phan Ri Cua commune mobilized military forces, border guards, commune police, organizations and villages to directly go to the affected areas to support the people. The government and functional forces organized the evacuation of the elderly and children to safe places, helped people transport their belongings, and used hundreds of sandbags to block drainage manholes to prevent high tides from entering residential areas. The commune's Civil Defense Command is still on duty, closely monitoring weather developments to promptly handle any bad situations that arise.

The waves were big so the boats quickly reached shore to ensure safety.

Previously, upon receiving information about heavy rain and flood discharge, the Phan Ri Cua commune authorities proactively deployed response measures. The locality increased propaganda on the radio system, warning people in vulnerable areas and ports to proactively evacuate and protect people and property. At the same time, functional forces were mobilized to closely monitor weather developments, inspect and review areas at risk of flooding and landslides to promptly handle and minimize damage.
