According to Mr. Le Van Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, from October 7 to 27, high tides flooded more than 2,562 hectares of fruit gardens, 252 hectares of rice, 218 hectares of crops and 4.27 hectares of aquaculture ponds, causing estimated damage of about 1.055 billion VND. The whole province recorded 135 landslides, with a total length of more than 28.8 km of embankments and dykes affected; total damage due to natural disasters is estimated at about 40.18 billion VND.

The cause was determined to be upstream floods combined with high tides and heavy rains, causing peak water levels on main rivers and inland canals to exceed alert level 3 by 10-46 cm, even higher than the historical level in 2022 at some stations such as My Thuan and Cho Lach by 7-9 cm. Many dikes and regulating sluices have degraded and are low in elevation, so they can no longer ensure the ability to prevent floods and overflows.

In the long term, the unit will coordinate to survey, evaluate, and propose an investment roadmap to upgrade and repair key works; delineate areas to protect high - value crops, review and relocate residents from areas at risk of landslides. Localities are required to be on duty 24/7, proactively reinforce and repair landslides, and ensure production safety and people's lives during this year's rainy and stormy season.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Chau Van Hoa said that the risk of landslides on river banks, dykes and irrigation works in the area is still very high. Although the tide level has tended to decrease, according to the forecast of the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, heavy rains will still appear in the last days of October, and high tides will continue to rise during the full moon of the ninth lunar month.

Provincial leaders requested localities and functional sectors to strengthen monitoring and regularly update weather developments; effectively implement the mottos "4 on-site" and "3 ready" to proactively respond and limit damage.

Units urgently inspected and reinforced key locations, mobilized forces and materials on the spot to handle the incident, and at the same time stepped up propaganda and instructed people to ensure safety of life and property. In particular, promptly relocated households in areas at risk of landslides; focused on repairing the dike section of Thanh Long islet (Phuoc Ly Nhi hamlet, Quoi Thien commune) to soon stabilize people's lives and production.
