The Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that today, October 24, the high tide in Ho Chi Minh City is still high. At Nha Be station, Dong Dien canal will peak at 5:30 p.m. with a peak of 1.78 m, and at Phu An Saigon station, the peak will be at 6 p.m. with a peak of 1.77 m.
High tides could be higher than forecast as northeast winds push water from river mouths further inland.
The highest water level of the day at most stations on the Saigon River is likely to stay high for the next 2 days, then drop rapidly.
The level of natural disaster risk in the lower Saigon River is at level 2. This is a high tide period, so it is necessary to be on guard against heavy rain combined with high tide causing flooding in low-lying areas and along the river, affecting traffic and socio -economic activities in the Ho Chi Minh City area.
Last night, Thanh Da peninsula, Binh Quoi ward was heavily flooded due to high tide. Water rose along all the roads and overflowed from the Saigon river into residential areas.
Some social media sites, TikTok posted that the embankment in this area had broken. However, this information is false.
This morning, confirming with Tuoi Tre Online , the People's Committee of Binh Quoi Ward said that there was no breach of the embankment. The cause of the flooding was a high tide, causing water to overflow the embankment into residential areas. On the evening of October 23, the ward's forces were also present to assist some heavily flooded houses in moving their belongings and vehicles.
This morning the ward is checking to prepare for the high tide forecast tonight, October 24.
