Vietnam's Hydrometeorological Agency said: On December 8, the tropical depression moved west-southwest at a speed of about 15-20km/hour towards the north of Palawan Island (Philippines). From the afternoon of December 8 to the afternoon of December 9, the tropical depression entered the East Sea at a speed of 20km/hour, maintaining a level 6 intensity with gusts of level 8. By the afternoon of December 9, the center of the tropical depression was located in the sea north of Truong Sa special zone, about 140km east-southeast of Song Tu Tay Island. In the next two days, the tropical depression continued to move west-southwest at a speed of 20-25km/hour and may gradually weaken.

However, according to Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the morning of December 8, the sea area in the southeast of the central East Sea (including the sea area in the northeast of Truong Sa special zone) will have winds gradually increasing to level 6, gusting to level 8, waves 2-4m high, rough seas. Ships in the danger zone may encounter thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds, and large waves.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning that the coastal areas of the North and the eastern coastal areas of the South are currently being affected by high tides. The highest water level on December 7 at Vung Tau station was 4.35m and at Hon Dau station ( Hai Phong City) was 4.2m.

According to the meteorological and hydrological agency, on December 8, high tides will still appear in the eastern coastal area of the South, the highest peak tide of the day at Vung Tau station is likely to reach 4.2-4.3m (peak tides appear during the following time frames: 2-5pm and 11pm the previous day to 2am the next day).

From the afternoon of December 9 to December 10, the tide in the South tends to decrease slowly, the highest peak tide of the day at Vung Tau station is 4-4.1m. Meanwhile, the tide in the North tends to increase and is at a high level, the highest peak tide on December 8 at Hon Dau station is 4.15-4.25m (occurrence time from 4 to 7 hours). From December 9 to December 10, the tide level in the North coast remains high and tends to increase slowly.

According to expert Bui Manh Ha, Head of the Oceanographic Forecasting Department (National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting), this is a period of high tide, low-lying areas along the coast, along rivers, and areas outside the dike are likely to be flooded when the tide reaches its peak. High tides will slow down the flood drainage process on the river system in the delta.

In the evening and at night, people need to be wary of strong currents flowing offshore during low tide, which are dangerous for maritime activities and sea tourism , especially in port and beach areas.
