Previously, at around 10 p.m. yesterday (March 5), many Facebook users in Vietnam were suddenly unable to log in to this social network.

Discussing the above incident, Mr. Tran Quang Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications, did not mention the consequences but said that the above incident will bring good signals to Vietnam in two directions: people will know that Vietnam has its own social network, Zalo; as well as have measures to secure accounts.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Information Security said that on the evening of March 5, when Facebook had a problem, he received many questions and concerns from users about whether their personal accounts were hacked.

According to Mr. Hung, after this incident, each of us probably realized that we are heavily dependent on cross-border social networking platforms such as Facebook, Tik Tok... "After yesterday's incident, many people asked if their accounts were hacked, and if they were hacked, how would they handle it?" - Mr. Hung raised the question.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Information Security pointed out the current situation that many user accounts are not secured with 2-step authentication, which also leads to the reason why they are susceptible to online fraud, because just revealing the password can cause the account to be hacked.

"After yesterday's incident, I believe many users have changed their passwords and created two-step authentication. This is very effective for promoting account security," said the Deputy Director of the Information Security Department.

Facebook social network crash

Statistics from the Department of Information Security show that most people who are scammed online are using devices belonging to the low-income group and the elderly.

All attackers and scammers use methods such as luring users to install malware on mobile devices; luring users to click on fraudulent links and luring users to send OTT codes to authenticate money transfers or tricking them into transferring money via accounts. The ultimate goal of online fraud is financial.

To prevent this, Mr. Tran Quang Hung said that it is necessary to synchronously deploy solutions such as handling the problem of cyberspace identification, preventing junk SIM cards, junk bank accounts, etc. When these measures are deployed synchronously, online fraud will decrease significantly.

According to the Director of the Department of Information Security, preventing online fraud is a long-term, protracted struggle. And, the Ministry of Information and Communications has the function of protecting users in cyberspace, providing different measures to combat online fraud.

The incident on the evening of March 5th happened globally, not just in Vietnam. Hundreds of millions of users of the above applications were affected. Many people were worried about losing their accounts because they could not log in many times. Many people even feared that their accounts could be stolen by others...

Regarding the Facebook crash, on the morning of March 6, a Meta representative confirmed: "Last night, March 5, a technical problem caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our platforms."
