Driver Quach Minh Nhut stated that he was worried about taking his child to the hospital, while being reminded by a motorcyclist right at the hospital gate, so he got angry and could not control his actions.
WATCH CLIP :
The Investigation Police Agency of District 1 Police, Ho Chi Minh City, said tonight (December 16) that it has clarified the details related to the case of a car driver beating and punching a motorcyclist in front of Gate 1, Tu Du Hospital (Pham Ngu Lao Ward, District 1).
The police have urgently arrested Quach Minh Nhat (33 years old, residing in District 6) and are consolidating the case file to handle the act of "Intentionally causing injury".
The authorities have taken Mr. TTT (50 years old, residing in District 1) - the victim in the incident - for an injury assessment and are waiting for the results to have a basis for handling. Mr. T. has filed a request for criminal proceedings against Nhut.
Quach Minh Nhut also admitted his wrongdoings, apologized to Mr. T. and hoped the law would be lenient.
According to the police, Nhut's testimony is consistent with the testimony of the victim T. as well as witnesses and the developments recorded by cameras around the scene.
Nhut confessed that at noon on December 14, he drove his wife and 1-month-old son to Tu Du Hospital for a check-up, accompanied by Nhut's biological mother. While everyone else was taking the baby to the hospital, Nhut went to a nearby parking lot to wait.
A while later, Nhut's wife contacted him and informed him that the hospital would not be open for examinations that day. Then, Nhut drove to Gate 1 of Tu Du Hospital to pick up his mother, wife, and child. At that time, the area in front of the hospital was crowded with vehicles, causing a traffic jam.
At that time, Mr. T. was driving a motorbike carrying his 16-year-old daughter to school through this area. Nhut's car was driving slowly, close to the right curb, obstructing the motorbikes behind, and at the same time, the intersection ahead had a red light so the vehicles stopped. When the light turned green, Mr. T. reminded Nhut to move the car to give way to the motorbikes.
Nhut said that at that time he did not hear clearly what Mr. T. was reminding him, but he knew that this man was upset. Therefore, Nhut was upset, and when he got angry, he could not control his behavior.
Opening the door and getting out of the car, Nhut cursed and hit Mr. T. in the face and head nearly ten times, causing his helmet to fall onto the road. His wife, holding their young child, and Nhut's biological mother got out of the car to intervene.
Seeing Mr. T. holding his helmet and trying to fight back, Nhut, despite his relatives' attempts to stop him, continued to assault him, knocking him to the ground. When people around tried to stop him, his mother and wife pulled him back into the car, then Nhut drove away.
Mr. T. asked the people around to report to the Pham Ngu Lao Ward Police. After that, Mr. T. went to the hospital for a health check. The doctor said he had a hemorrhage in his eye and scratches on his leg.
The incident was recorded by security cameras and by people nearby, and posted on social media, causing public outrage.
The police said that Nhut's behavior was aggressive, beating people in a crowded place, causing traffic jams and affecting traffic safety and security. Therefore, Nhut must be severely punished to deter and prevent society.
