Strengthening protection of special-use forests

Thai Nguyen is the locality with the highest forest coverage rate in the country. In recent years, the province has achieved many positive results in forest protection and development, especially in conservation areas and special-use forests. In addition to tightening inspection and control, mechanisms and policies to encourage people to participate in forest management and protection have initially shown effectiveness, contributing to maintaining the existing forest area.

Kim Hy Nature Reserve, with an area of ​​over 15,000 hectares, spread across the communes of Con Minh, Van Lang and Vinh Thong, is one of the key areas. The ecosystem here is rich and diverse, with many rare animals, such as: White-cheeked langur, cardamom turtle, palm civet, gecko, and hundreds of species of precious medicinal plants. In recent years, forest protection work in Kim Hy has been carried out seriously and effectively.

Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Head of Forest Protection Unit No. 6, said: The unit closely coordinates with the village communities, organizes regular patrols, and deploys many forms of propaganda so that people can grasp the regulations on forest protection. All villages have established conventions and committed to strictly implementing them. Any village that violates them will not benefit from forestry policies, thereby raising responsibility and community awareness.

Besides Kim Hy, Thai Nguyen has many other conservation areas such as: Nam Xuan Lac Species - Habitat Conservation Area, Ba Be National Park and Thac Gieng Landscape Protection Area, where the precious wood forest ecosystem is still relatively intact.

Faced with the complicated situation of illegal logging in some areas, the forest rangers have deployed many synchronous solutions to protect existing forest areas.

The functional sector not only focuses on patrolling and inspecting but also coordinates with local authorities to strengthen propaganda and raise people's awareness of forest protection. The mechanisms and policies to support and encourage people to participate in forest protection have also shown remarkable effectiveness.

Specifically, according to Decision 24 of the Government , each hectare of forest allocated is supported with 150,000 VND/year; villages and hamlets in the core and buffer zones of the conservation area are also supported with 40 million VND/year to invest in essential infrastructure. Thanks to that, people's lives have gradually improved, while at the same time, their responsibility in forest protection has been enhanced.

Since the beginning of the year, Thai Nguyen forest rangers have discovered and recorded more than 300 violations of regulations on forest protection, development and forest product management, seizing nearly 300 cubic meters of wood, of which only nearly 4.9 cubic meters were rare and precious wood.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said: The unit has implemented synchronous solutions from propaganda, raising awareness among people to fully implementing the forest protection contract policy. In particular, the province has temporarily stopped the purchase, sale, auction and transportation of rare timber, thanks to which the encroachment of precious timber forests has significantly decreased.

These efforts not only protect rare forests but also open up the direction for developing ecotourism and resorts associated with indigenous culture, helping Thai Nguyen sustainably exploit forest potential and develop the economy in association with environmental protection. Thanks to that, forest protection becomes an important fulcrum for the province's sustainable development, while contributing to maintaining ecological balance, conserving biodiversity and improving the lives of forest communities.
