Strengthening digital transformation, gradually reducing poverty sustainably

Contributing to improving people's knowledge and aiming to escape poverty sustainably, Truong Son commune (Quang Tri) has promoted digital transformation, eliminated information poverty, helped people access policies, learn effective production models to stabilize their lives.

As a poor mountainous locality with many ethnic minorities, typically the Bru-Van Kieu ethnic group, Truong Son commune, Quang Tri province (after the merger), has made significant efforts in poverty reduction.

In recent years, along with efforts to reduce economic poverty, Truong Son commune has achieved important results in poverty reduction. In particular, one of the tasks that the commune focuses on in poverty reduction is information poverty reduction. Thanks to that, people have the opportunity to access knowledge, grasp useful information, contribute to improving people's knowledge and aiming for the goal of sustainable poverty reduction.

In the context of continuous integration and development, access to information plays a key role in the process of socio-economic development. For a mountainous commune like Truong Son, where many households are still poor and near-poor, removing information barriers becomes even more urgent.

Realizing that, the Party Committee and government of Truong Son commune have been implementing many synchronous solutions to bring information and knowledge closer to the people, helping them escape poverty sustainably.

Thanks to access to technology, changing production and business models, people's lives have improved.

Accordingly, the Commune People's Committee has directed the flexible and creative implementation of radio programs to disseminate to the people policies and strategies on poverty reduction, effective models, and good practices in sustainable poverty reduction. In addition, propaganda is integrated into meetings and activities of associations and unions; and job counseling and vocational training are coordinated for workers in poor, near-poor, and newly escaped-poverty households.

Thanks to that, people's awareness has been raised, they have seen the benefits of policies and investment support projects, have actively participated in production labor, created jobs, stabilized their lives, increased their income to gradually reduce poverty sustainably.

The “bright spot” in communication work is the application of digital transformation - promoting propaganda through the zalo channel. By taking advantage of these popular social networking platforms, the locality has conveyed information quickly, directly and personalized to each citizen.

At the same time, community media groups have also played a role in guiding people to use essential software such as VNeID (national electronic identification application), non-cash payment methods, reading newspapers online, and watching TV online. These utilities not only help people access more diverse information but also contribute to improving digital skills.

Through these practical activities, people in Truong Son commune have become familiar with using the Internet, creating great convenience in accessing information about the Party and State's poverty reduction policies and guidelines, shortening the geographical distance or lack of media. People can easily learn about effective economic development models, thereby applying them to their family's production practices.

The case of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Viet's family in Kha Ngang village is a proof. Previously, his family only practiced traditional agricultural production, rarely listening to the radio or reading newspapers. Since accessing the Internet, he has learned about many effective livestock farming models. At the same time, with the support of a loan of 100 million VND from the Social Policy Bank, he has developed a comprehensive livestock farming model, contributing to a stable income.

In particular, the commune pays special attention to the female group in propaganda work, because this group is often in charge of housework and has little contact with the outside world. To increase the effectiveness of propaganda, the Commune Women's Union regularly organizes activities to propagate loan policies and livestock and crop farming skills suitable for women's conditions.

The association also encourages and guides members to use smartphones to search for market information and post-harvest processing methods, helping to increase product value. With complete and reliable information, women will be more confident, apply science and technology to production, boldly seek job opportunities, thereby improving income and improving the quality of family life.

Thus, it can be seen that through information poverty reduction with the synchronous coordination between organizations and local authorities, Truong Son commune has been aiming for the goal of sustainable poverty reduction for local people. Up to now, the commune has 2,117 households with 8,405 people, of which the Bru-Van Kieu ethnic group accounts for 48.56% of the population. The whole commune has 461 poor households (accounting for 21.78%), the poverty rate decreases by an average of 3%/year.
