Strengthening cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Palmerston North city, New Zealand

From September 7-8, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Phan Minh Giang visited and worked in Palmerston North city of New Zealand.

As a city adjacent to the capital Wellington, Palmerston North city has great potential for cooperation in education, training, development of high-quality human resources, energy, high-tech agriculture , application of high-tech solutions in plant and animal care and ensuring food safety.

During the trip, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang paid a courtesy call and worked with Mayor of Palmerston North Grant Smith.

At the meeting, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang updated information on Vietnam's socio -economic development situation, emphasizing efforts to achieve two 100-year goals to realize the aspiration of building Vietnam into a strong, prosperous and happy nation. During that process, the Ambassador affirmed his wish and trust in the companionship of New Zealand in general and Palmerston North City in particular, contributing to the common efforts to effectively implement the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, bringing more practical benefits to the people and businesses of the two countries.

Appreciating the potential and strengths of Palmerston North city, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang commented that the city has the ability to complement each other and respond appropriately to Vietnam's development needs, especially in science and technology, innovation, green transformation, high-quality agriculture, etc.

At the same time, the Ambassador proposed promoting forms of exchange and cooperation as well as studying and establishing partnerships between Palmerston North City and provinces, cities and localities of Vietnam. On this occasion, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang thanked and asked Mayor Grant Smith to continue to support and care for the Vietnamese community in Palmerston North City.

Mayor of Palmerston North Grant Smith emphasized the importance of Vietnam's increasingly important role in the region and highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements over the past years. The Mayor affirmed that Palmerston North will continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand to effectively contribute to the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, and is ready to continue promoting cooperation with Vietnamese localities in the coming time.

Also during the trip, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang visited and worked with a number of educational and training establishments and applied research centers located in Palmerston North. Before that, the Ambassador had a meeting with the Vietnamese community currently living, working and studying in this city.
