On August 18, the Office of the Steering Committee for Energy Conservation presided over and coordinated with the Center for Electricity Market Development Research and Training, the unit assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to preside over the Vietnam Electricity Conservation Network (VESN) to organize the "Conference on Energy Conservation in the Hot Season".
The conference on "Electricity saving in hot season" is a continuation of a series of events within the framework of the National Program on energy saving and efficiency for the period 2019-2030 (VNEEP3 Program) in 2023.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Steering Committee for Energy Conservation, Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Conservation, Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that climate change is increasingly extreme, difficult to predict, and unpredictable, and load demand is forecasted to recover. Therefore, to prepare for unusual developments that may occur during hot weather in the following years, each individual and organization needs to promote, take immediate, continuous and practical actions on electricity saving practices.

At the conference, Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group, said that the power system faced a crisis of imbalance between electricity supply and demand in the past months of May and June, especially in the Northern region. Due to the impact of the El Nino phenomenon, in addition to the fuel shortage and some coal-fired thermal power plants having problems due to operating in prolonged hot weather conditions, leading to a serious power shortage.
In the context of supply shortage, the role of electricity customers (demand side) is extremely important in using electricity efficiently and economically. With the active cooperation of electricity customers, from May 17 to June 16, the whole country saved more than 226 million kWh (only for customer groups: Administration, public lighting, outdoor advertising lighting and key energy-using facilities), contributing positively to ensuring the balance of electricity supply and demand.
