(Baothanhhoa.vn) - To achieve high economic efficiency and improve people's lives, localities in the province have recently implemented solutions to develop livestock and poultry farming in a biosafety-oriented manner, linked to product consumption through supply chains.

The people of Xuan Binh commune have adopted a farm-based and family-run chicken farming model that yields high economic efficiency.

Thuan Minh Farm in Tho Lap commune is one of the exemplary models of closed-loop pig farming according to VietGAP standards. Starting as a small-scale household with low economic efficiency and frequent disease outbreaks, the family faced many economic difficulties. In 2022, with a determination to prosper in his homeland, Mr. Pham Ngoc Sang, the farm owner, planned a portion of his family's agricultural land, borrowed capital, and invested in building a closed-loop pig farm covering over 1,000 square meters according to VietGAP standards. From selecting breeding stock, feed, water, veterinary hygiene, to waste treatment and record keeping, everything is strictly implemented. Each breeding cycle, the farm has over 200 commercial pigs and 10 sows. The farming area is scientifically designed, with separate zones for easy care and disease prevention, ensuring coolness in summer and warmth in winter. As a result, the pigs are protected from disease, are easy to sell, and yield significantly higher economic value compared to traditional farming methods.

Unlike Thuan Minh Farm, the chicken farm model of Ms. Le Thi Hue 's family in Yen Phu commune, with a total flock of 12,000 chickens per batch, applies a new method to change production practices. This contributes to freeing up labor, reducing costs, improving productivity and product quality, and aligning with market trends. Ms. Hue has renovated the farm's facilities, installed automatic feeding and watering systems, and invested in a feed mixer to ensure a reliable supply of raw materials and utilize local agricultural products to reduce production costs. She has also adjusted the nutritional diet to suit each stage of the animals' development. Evaluating the effectiveness of the new method, Ms. Hue stated that it can save 10-20% of costs. Furthermore, it reduces labor costs, minimizes feed waste, ensures farm hygiene, improves productivity and product quality, thereby creating more opportunities for production linkages and product distribution with businesses.

Livestock farming according to VietGAP standards, like that of Mr. Pham Ngoc Sang's family or Ms. Le Thi Hue, are just two of many effective farming models that have been and are being applied by people and businesses in the province in recent times. However, looking at the overall picture, the livestock sector in the province still faces many difficulties and challenges. These include the small scale of household farming, which is a barrier to the application of science and technology, disease prevention and control, and product consumption...

With the goal of creating a breakthrough in livestock farming to increase added value along the value chain, Thanh Hoa province has developed a plan for livestock development in the form of small to medium-scale farm-based livestock production, ensuring biosafety, disease safety, meeting quality and food safety requirements for consumption, and linking consumption through joint ventures and linkages. Through the application of some mechanisms and policies of the province, initial linkages have been established between livestock farmers and businesses, thereby attracting significant investment from businesses and individuals in this field. A typical example is the chicken farming linkage chain linked with processing and consumption between Japfa Vietnam Group, CP Livestock Corporation, Phu Gia Agricultural Products Corporation and the districts of Tho Xuan, Trieu Son, Nong Cong, and Yen Dinh in the past; The chain of raising lean-meat foreign-bred pigs is being developed in localities with suitable land conditions, synchronized infrastructure, disease control linked to environmental protection, and a stable market in districts such as Nga Son, Trieu Son, Ha Trung, Thach Thanh, Ba Thuoc, Lang Chanh, etc. Along with livestock farming, small and medium-sized enterprises in the province are also developing poultry farming in production and consumption chains such as: the industrial chicken egg production and supply chain of Phuc Vinh Clean Food Co., Ltd.; Happy Farm Vietnam Agricultural Services Joint Stock Company is implementing a production, consumption, and processing chain with 50 free-range chicken farms...

The success of the livestock farming model and value chain is a crucial prerequisite for people and businesses operating in the livestock sector to apply and replicate on a larger scale. In the coming time, to promote the sustainable development of the livestock sector, one of the solutions implemented by Thanh Hoa province is to focus on building large-scale concentrated livestock farming areas, applying high technology, especially in lean pork farming, dairy cattle, and high-quality beef cattle. The province is also promoting the development of livestock farming towards high-tech farms and value chains to improve efficiency and sustainability, while also promoting the transfer of science and technology, creating conditions for land for building barns and concentrated livestock farming areas, and attracting businesses to invest in the livestock sector to build value chains, contributing to improving the economic efficiency of the province's livestock industry and promoting sustainable development.
