People in Xuan Binh commune apply the model of raising livestock and chicken farms, bringing high economic efficiency.
Thuan Minh Farm in Tho Lap commune is one of the typical models of closed pig farming following VietGAP. Starting from a small-scale farming household with low economic efficiency, along with frequently facing epidemics, the family economy encountered many difficulties. In 2022, with the determination to get rich on his homeland, Mr. Pham Ngoc Sang, the farm owner, planned a part of his family's agricultural land, borrowed capital to invest in building a closed pig farm according to VietGAP standards with an area of over 1,000m2. From the stages of selecting breeds, food, drinking water, veterinary hygiene to waste treatment and bookkeeping, all are strictly applied. Each batch of livestock, the farm has over 200 commercial pigs and 10 sows. The livestock area is scientifically designed, divided into separate zones to facilitate care and disease prevention, with the criteria of being cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Thanks to that, the pig herd is guaranteed to be disease-free, easy to consume, and brings economic value many times higher than traditional farming.
Unlike Thuan Minh Farm, the chicken farm model with a total herd of 12,000 chickens/batch of Ms. Le Thi Hue 's family in Yen Phu commune applies a new method to change the production method. Thereby, it contributes to liberating labor, reducing costs, improving productivity and product quality, in line with market trends. Ms. Hue has renovated the barn system, installed automatic hourly feeding and drinking troughs; invested in a feed mixer to proactively source raw materials, taking advantage of local agricultural products to reduce production costs. Along with that, the nutritional ration is adjusted to suit each stage of development of the livestock. Evaluating the effectiveness after using the new method, Ms. Hue said that she could save 10 - 20% of costs. In addition, it also reduces labor costs, limits food spillage, ensures barn hygiene, improves productivity and product quality, thereby creating many opportunities to link production and product consumption with businesses...
Raising livestock according to VietGAP standards like Mr. Pham Ngoc Sang's family or Ms. Le Thi Hue's are just two of many effective livestock models that have been applied by people and businesses in the province in recent times. However, looking at the whole picture, the livestock sector in the province still faces many difficulties and challenges. That is, the scale of livestock farming in households is still small, which is a barrier to the application of science and technology, disease prevention and control as well as product consumption...
With the goal of creating a breakthrough in livestock farming activities to increase added value according to the value chain, Thanh Hoa province has developed a plan to develop livestock farming in the form of small to medium-scale farms, ensuring biosafety, disease safety, meeting quality requirements, food safety for consumption and linking with consumption according to joint venture and association chains. Through the application of a number of mechanisms and policies of the province, there has been an initial connection between livestock farmers and enterprises, thereby allowing enterprises and individuals to invest deeply in this field. Typically, the chicken farming chain linked with processing and consumption between Japfa Vietnam Group, CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, Phu Gia Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company with the districts of Tho Xuan, Trieu Son, Nong Cong, Yen Dinh before; Lean pig farming linkage chain in localities with favorable land conditions, synchronous infrastructure, disease control associated with environmental protection and stable consumption markets in previous districts such as Nga Son, Trieu Son, Ha Trung, Thach Thanh, Ba Thuoc, Lang Chanh... Along with livestock farming, small and medium enterprises in the province also develop poultry farming according to production and product consumption linkage chains such as: Industrial chicken egg production and supply chain of Phuc Vinh Clean Food Company Limited; Happy Farm Vietnam Agricultural Services Joint Stock Company deploys production, consumption and processing linkage chain with 50 free-range chicken farms...
The success of the livestock farming model and linkage chain is an important premise for people and businesses operating in the livestock sector to apply and replicate widely. In the coming time, to promote the sustainable development of the livestock sector, one of the solutions implemented by Thanh Hoa province is to focus on building large-scale concentrated livestock farming areas, applying high technology, especially raising lean pigs, dairy cows and high-quality beef cattle. The province also promotes the development of livestock farming in the direction of farms, applying high technology and following the value chain, in order to improve efficiency and sustainability, while promoting support for the transfer of science and technology, creating favorable conditions for land to build barns, concentrated livestock farming areas, attracting businesses to invest in the livestock sector to build a value chain, contributing to improving economic efficiency for the province's livestock industry to develop sustainably.
