On the afternoon of October 31, at the Vam Nhut Tao historical relic site (Nhat Tao commune, Tay Ninh province), the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province coordinated with the relic management board and local people to solemnly hold a memorial ceremony to commemorate the 157th anniversary of the death of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (1868 - 2025).

Attending the ceremony were leaders and former leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tay Ninh province; along with a large number of people and tourists from all over gathered at the relic site to offer incense to commemorate the cloth hero, remembering his great contributions in the struggle against the French colonialists.

At the ceremony, delegates and people respectfully offered flowers and incense, and recalled the life, career and indomitable spirit of hero Nguyen Trung Truc. He was born in 1838 in a family of Binh Dinh origin in Nghe hamlet on the banks of the Vam Co Dong River, formerly Long An province.
After the French colonialists repeatedly raided the Central Coast, his family drifted to the South and settled in Long An. When the French colonialists occupied the Southern provinces, he was one of the first people in the South to raise the flag of uprising and gather an army to fight against the French in the second half of the 19th century.

On December 10, 1861, with the help of the people and village officials of Nhut Tao village, Nguyen Trung Truc and his army burned the French colonial warship L'Espérance (Hope), considered modern at that time.
This year’s anniversary was solemnly held for 3 days, with many cultural activities and festivals imbued with traditional Southern identity such as Hat Boi, Don Ca Tai Tu exchange, Cai Luong with content about the life and achievements of Hero Nguyen Trung Truc. Many charity kitchens and free “vegetarian parties” were organized to serve tourists, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and affection of local people.
The 157th anniversary commemoration of the death of Hero Nguyen Trung Truc is an opportunity for Tay Ninh people and tourists from all over to express their gratitude, while contributing to educating the young generation about patriotism, arousing national pride and promoting the cultural and historical values of the heroic Southern land.
