Russian missile delivers fatal blow, tearing apart Ukraine's HIMARS

On August 27, SF reported another Russian precision strike on the US-made HIMARS system used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Sumy region. The location where the Ukrainian system was deployed was detected by a Russian reconnaissance drone near the village of Stepanovka. Immediately after the system was detected, the Russian military launched Iskander-M tactical ballistic missiles.

The attack was coordinated by a Russian drone and the moment of the attack was also captured. Images from public video showed large explosions, ammunition detonating after impact, and then flames shooting dozens of meters high, completely destroying the HIMARS system.

This is the second HIMARS system destroyed in the area on August 27.

Earlier, on August 26, the Russian military also launched a major attack on Ukrainian territory. Russian drones and missiles attacked Ukrainian military and industrial infrastructure across the country. After the attack, many Ukrainian cities were covered in smoke due to large explosions.

According to preliminary estimates, more than 60 Russian missiles and 100 drones were launched on the morning of August 26. According to Ukrainian monitoring sources, 11 TU-95MS strategic bombers took off from Russian airfields. In addition, 6 TU-22M3 aircraft and MiG-31 fighters carrying hypersonic missiles were also reported to have taken off.

Before the missiles were launched, several Russian suicide drones circled the area to locate Ukrainian air defense systems. This action forced the Ukrainian Armed Forces to waste precious missiles on multiple targets.

According to preliminary reports, around 75 airstrikes were recorded across the country. Details of the targets have not been released but they include military installations, airports, air defense deployment areas, power substations, etc.

Among the targets attacked were two strategic airports of the Ukrainian forces: Aviatorskoe military airport near the city of Dnipro and Mirgorod airport in the Poltava region. A military base where Ukrainian units were transferred from different directions on the front line was also attacked in the Poltava region.

At least two Russian airstrikes were reported at Zhulyany airport in Kyiv, where the US-made Patriot system is deployed.

Ukrainian authorities have confirmed an industrial facility was attacked in the Poltava region, while several logistics centres were destroyed in the city of Odessa. Dozens of trucks used by the Ukrainian army were set on fire.
