Lunar New Year 2024 may be 7 consecutive days off

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí16/09/2023

According to the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to 5 days off with full pay for the Lunar New Year. Every year, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister decides on specific days off.

Lunar New Year is a holiday in the year for workers, in addition to New Year's Day (January 1st), Victory Day (April 30th), International Labor Day (May 1st); National Day (September 2nd and 1 day before or after) and Hung King's Commemoration Day (March 10th of the lunar calendar).

If the weekly day off coincides with a public holiday as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 112 of the 2019 Labor Code, the employee shall be entitled to take a compensatory weekly day off on the next working day.

According to tradition, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs will draft a plan for the Lunar New Year holiday and submit it to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision. According to previous years' submissions, this holiday schedule is often built according to the plan of choosing a holiday of 1 day for the old year and 4 days for the new year, or 2 days for the old year and 3 days for the new year.

In 2024, December 29 falls on Thursday, February 8, 2024. In addition, January 5 falls on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Because the Lunar New Year holiday coincides with a weekly day off, employees will be given 2 days off in compensation. Thus, on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2024, employees can have 7 consecutive days off.

The specific holiday schedule will be drafted by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and submitted to the Government for decision.

According to Article 104 of the 2019 Labor Code, a bonus is an amount of money or property or other forms that an employer rewards an employee based on production and business results and the employee's level of work completion.

The bonus regulations are decided by the employer and publicly announced at the workplace after consulting with the employee representative organization at the workplace where there is an employee representative organization at the workplace.

It can be seen that during the Lunar New Year, if the business is doing well, it can give its employees a large bonus. If the business situation is not good, the business can give less or even no bonus to the employees.

In 2024, New Year's Day falls on Monday, January 1, 2024. Thus, on New Year's Day 2024, employees will have 1 day off and receive full pay.

However, December 30 and 31 fall on Saturday and Sunday. Therefore, during the 2024 New Year holiday, officials, civil servants, public employees and workers at state agencies will have a three-day holiday.
