With the spirit of “mutual love” and “no one left behind”, Thai Nguyen province has persistently carried out the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for many years. Notably, when the Prime Minister launched the program in early 2024, the whole province still had 1,838 houses that needed to be eliminated.

The Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee (PPC) identified this as a humane and practical task associated with the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. The province has established a Provincial Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary Houses, with the Provincial Party Secretary as Head and the Provincial People's Committee Chairman as Deputy Head; the district and commune levels have also established corresponding Steering Committees. Thanks to this, the entire political system from the province to the grassroots, organizations, business communities and people have joined in, with consensus and high determination. Through the Peak Month for the Poor, Tet for the Poor and socialized resources, each year Thai Nguyen eliminates hundreds of temporary houses.

Mr. Hoang Van Son's family in Dong Dinh hamlet, La Hien commune, Vo Nhai district, a poor household, dreamed of living in a solid house, which has come true when they received support of 60 million VND. The family borrowed more and relatives and the community helped with labor, so they were able to build a new house with an area of nearly 100 square meters, worth nearly 350 million VND.

Similarly, Ms. Ngo Thi Hang in Van Han hamlet, Van Han commune, Dong Hy district, who received support, was also able to build a new house measuring 80 square meters, worth 320 million VND. Ms. Hang shared: “With the support of the State, relatives, community and additional loans to have a new, solid house, my family is very happy and secure to do business and develop production.”

Vo Nhai is a mountainous district with rugged terrain, the majority of the population is ethnic minorities, the number of temporary houses that need to be removed accounts for nearly 50% of the total in the province; among them are many families living in special-use forests, on high mountains, their children have to wake up at 4 am to go to school.

According to Secretary of the District Party Committee Ha Thi Bich Hong, in the process of implementing the temporary house removal, along with the State's resources, the locality mobilized support of more than 13 billion VND, hundreds of tons of materials from businesses and organizations; reviewed planning to issue "red books" for land to people; many households in special-use forests were supported and sponsored to buy land "down the mountain" near the center to facilitate their children's studies; mobilized thousands of soldiers and youth groups to carry and carry materials, so the temporary house removal was completed on schedule.

A highlight of the program is that the province has applied digital transformation to manage and monitor the entire implementation process. Images and information of each house from initial status, construction progress to completion are all updated and made public on the system. Thereby helping leaders at all levels to closely monitor, promptly remove difficulties, and ensure progress and quality of the project.

Vice Chairwoman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Loan said: The leadership and direction of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province has been deployed and implemented synchronously and resolutely, demonstrating a sense of responsibility from the province to the commune. Resources from the budget and socialization have been mobilized with a total of 194 billion VND; poor and near-poor households have made efforts to soon have new houses to stabilize their lives.

At the conference to summarize the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area held at the end of April, comrade Trinh Viet Hung, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee directed: "After eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, all levels and functional branches need to review and classify poor and near-poor households to organize vocational training and introduce suitable jobs; households themselves need to eliminate the mindset of being content with their lot, make efforts to have a long-term livelihood and escape poverty sustainably".
