Difficulties in searching for victims who fell into the "death" hole in Bac Kan

NDO - After 3 days of deploying equipment and many plans, Bac Kan authorities still have not been able to find the whereabouts of the victim who fell into the "death" pit in Na Ri district. The situation at this sinkhole also poses a danger to the rescue team.

Since May 27, after receiving the report, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police ( Bac Kan Provincial Police) used underwater cameras to search but were ineffective.

The method of using a hook to probe also failed to find any trace of the victim. The authorities only recovered a few pieces of metal from the fence and a shirt suspected to belong to the victim.

From noon on May 28, authorities decided to use 5 high-capacity pumps to pump out all the water in the hole.

By late afternoon on May 28, the water in the pit had been basically drained out. However, this plan had to be temporarily suspended because after the water receded, the sinkhole began to collapse. At the same time, a quantity of mud, water and sand was pushed up from the bottom of the pit.

According to the judgment, the pumping of water caused the water to drag mud and soil into the sinkhole. From the mouth of the hole down to the bottom of the hole about 18m deep, the pumping process pushed mud and sand out strongly.

In addition, there is a frog's mouth under the sinkhole, which may collapse when the water recedes, causing danger and difficulty in searching for the victim. This also reduces the probability of the victim's body floating up the water.

On the other hand, because there are other sinkholes nearby, pumping water can cause other sinkholes to expand and deepen.

Faced with this development, the rescue team decided to temporarily stop pumping water to study other search options.

On May 28, Vice Chairman of the Bac Kan Provincial People's Council Dong Van Luu inspected and directed rescue work at the scene. The Vice Chairman of the Bac Kan Provincial People's Council requested that forces make efforts to study options for searching for victims.

The deployment process must ensure absolute safety for rescue forces.

From the night of May 28 to the morning of May 29, there was heavy rain in Bac Kan. The search for victims is forecast to become more difficult and complicated.

Previously, as reported by Nhan Dan Newspaper, on the evening of May 26, an incident occurred where a motorcyclist crashed into a metal fence surrounding a sinkhole in the middle of National Highway 3B. As a result, both the person and the vehicle fell into the sinkhole and went missing.
