Receiving us in her spacious house, it was hard to imagine that in the past, Ms. Hau's family had to "run for every meal". She said that in the past, her family was very poor, after many years of struggling to find a living, she decided to start a business with mixed rice paper. At that time (2014), the mixed rice paper market in Tan An City was not as large as it is today.
Although the startup capital was only 200,000 VND, Ms. Hau went to Nhon Hoa rice paper village (Ward 5, Tan An City) to buy ingredients and research how to make tamarind sauce to mix with rice paper. At first, she only did small business on the roadside.
On a "broken-down" motorbike, every day Ms. Hau roamed the streets to earn a living. "At that time, my 3 children were still young. My husband worked as a driver, his income was also unstable. I just hoped to earn a few tens of thousands of dong each day to cover my living expenses and I would be very happy!" - Ms. Hau confided.
Not only developing the family economy , Ms. Pham Thi Hau also creates regular jobs for 60 workers.
Not afraid of hardship, Ms. Hau spent time learning and researching to be able to create a type of mixed rice paper with a special flavor, "holding on" to many customers. The main ingredients are rice paper and familiar spices such as salt, cooking oil, onion, garlic, lemon, tamarind, ... but Ms. Hau knows how to skillfully combine them, creating a delicious and unique flavor of mixed rice paper. Although she only sells small items on the sidewalk, a few months later, many people came to buy mixed rice paper from Ms. Hau to eat or as gifts when returning home.
Thanks to the favorable business, about a year later, Ms. Hau had the conditions to expand production. No longer doing small business on the sidewalk, she and her husband boldly rented a space on the main street frontage for more convenient business and built the Co Ut mixed rice paper production facility. With the savings and support from the provincial Center for Industrial Promotion and Trade Promotion, she invested in a rice paper mixing machine and some other machinery to serve production. Thanks to that, she was able to save time, gradually moving towards producing completely clean mixed rice paper by machine.
Rice paper is packaged in clean packaging, with clear label and address.
Currently, Co Ut's mixed rice paper production facility has rice paper mixing machines, cashew oil cooking machines, onion and garlic frying machines, packaging machines, etc. Ms. Hau shared: "As a food production and trading facility, we pay special attention to ensuring food safety, training and health checks according to regulations.
The raw materials and spices used in production are purchased from establishments with food safety certificates. Along with that, I invest in machinery to serve the processing and packaging of products in large quantities. Rice paper is packaged in clean packaging, with clear labels and addresses. On average, each day, the facility produces over 1 ton of finished rice paper to supply to wholesale and retail points in and outside the province."
Up to now, Ms. Hau has been involved in the production and business of mixed rice paper for 9 years. She has successfully built the brand of Co Ut Rice Paper and created regular jobs for 60 workers. Currently, Ms. Hau continues to invest in machinery according to a closed process to create rice paper products that are not only delicious but also safe for consumers./.
