Singer Ho Tuan Phuc opened his own vocal class in his hometown for young people who want to take the entrance exam to the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.

- Hello singer Ho Tuan Phuc, what made you decide to go to Ca Mau to open a vocal class for young people with a passion for singing?

Singer Ho Tuan Phuc: Nine years ago, when I came to Ho Chi Minh City to study at the Conservatory, I had a dream that if I studied well, I would return to my hometown to help young people like me. I found that in Ca Mau, there were very few vocal classes to train skills for children and teenagers, especially for the Conservatory entrance exam. Therefore, I wanted to contribute to my hometown and open up a new path for young people, without having to spend too much money to learn vocal music.

In the past, to prepare for the conservatory, I had to travel quite far to study. I also felt sorry for myself and felt inferior because I could not approach professional art from a young age due to objective conditions. I want to be a supporter and orientator so that young people do not get confused on the journey to their dreams.

- How do you arrange your work in Ho Chi Minh City to maintain the vocal class in Ca Mau, since the tuition fee is only symbolic?

Singer Ho Tuan Phuc: The roads are now more convenient thanks to the construction of highways. In the past, it took 8 hours to travel, but now it only takes more than 5 hours, and with the development of Ca Mau, the distance will be shortened. Moreover, geographical distance is not a problem for me, I am only worried that when posting information about recruiting students for the vocal class, people will be afraid of the high tuition fees and not register. Because my profile is that I graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music and have a history of being a professional singer. Therefore, I publicly announce the tuition fees so that everyone can confidently participate.

Every month, I arrange many days. For those who want to study 4 sessions, I will divide them into Saturday and Sunday, or 2 days/week, 60 minutes in the morning and the same in the afternoon, so that you can access them easily. If you want to study 2 sessions, 2 hours each session is still fine. Professional singing lessons are different from regular classes, you have to use your mind and your feelings to learn. I want to try to arrange a stable job to maintain the vocal class, helping those who need to prepare for exams to enter professional art schools with both knowledge and expertise.

- How do you feel about the passion for music of young people in Ca Mau?

Singer Ho Tuan Phuc: When I posted the recruitment information, I was really surprised because most of the people who texted me were of high school age. They were like me in the past, uncertain and unsteady like a blind person trying to find his way closer to his passion for singing.

In the past, when I decided to take the entrance exam to the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, I also had to study for many years to know how to take the exam, how to review... Among them, there are subjects that candidates must study systematically, completely different from the high school graduation exam. This is an aptitude test, so you have to review your aptitude thoroughly. Not everyone who sings well will pass the entrance exam to the Conservatory of Music. For example, when taking the intermediate level exam of the Conservatory of Music, you have to take a solfege test and sing a fast song and a slow song, but sing in classical and operatic tones. The lecturer requires you to sing well enough to be placed in the right genre training course. This means that you have to know about solfege and music theory. The entrance exam to the intermediate level of the Conservatory of Music is extremely difficult. You have to know almost 90% of the basics of vocal music to get a ticket to enter the school.

It took me months of hard work studying, while balancing my high school graduation exam preparation. Scheduling the exam preparation was very difficult, but because of my passion, I tried to persevere. Every Friday, I drove to Ho Chi Minh City to study vocal music for 2 days: Saturday and Sunday. Those are the things I experienced. I hope that you do not have to work as hard as I did in the past but still have the opportunity to pursue your passion.

- What advantages do you think young people today have when finding their way to their passion for art compared to your time?

Singer Ho Tuan Phuc: In recent years, the Vietnamese music industry has been more focused on entertainment and has developed internationally, so young people have more advantages. In my time, there weren't many social media channels to share how to study, and it was very difficult to find someone to come to the Conservatory to "hold your hand and show you how to do it", which made studying for exams much more difficult. But now, you can go to many applications, or have the opportunity to meet many teachers to get advice, exam orientation, and vocal lessons.

- Do you feel that the path to art for young people in Ca Mau in particular and the West in general is difficult?

Singer Ho Tuan Phuc: No matter what profession we do or what profession we study, it is always difficult. The most difficult thing for you guys in the West is needing someone to guide you and provide you with the right knowledge to take the exam. I want to be the one to light the way for you guys to go more smoothly than I did in the past. By opening a vocal class in my hometown, I will help you guys know what you need to do, what to learn, and what to practice to enter a professional music environment.

- Thank you singer Ho Tuan Phuc!
